2009 Preakness Odds: Rachel Alexandra 3/2 Favorite to win 134 Preakness

Normally the winner of the Kentucky Derby receives most of the attention from the public, especially when said winner was a 50/1 long shot to win. But 2009 Kentucky Derby Mine That Bird wasn’t the talk of the town two weeks ago at Churchill Downs – Rachel Alexandra was.
Rachel Alexandra won the Kentucky Oaks the day before the Derby by more than 20 lengths, which turned some heads at Churchill Downs. Since that impressive victory, the 3-year old filly was made an immediate favorite to win the 2009 Preakness Stakes by oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction, even before she was confirmed to run.
Rachel Alexandra has been lights out since October of last year. She won the Allowance on October 17, finished second at the Pocahontas S. on November 1, and placed first at the Golden Rod S. on November 29.
She’s been flawless so far in 2009, winning at the Martha Washington S. on February 15, the Fair Grounds Oaks on March 14, the Fantasy S. on April 5, and the Kentucky Oaks on May 1. Simply put, Rachel Alexandra has been phenomenal.
There’s a chance Rachel Alexandra still might not run in the Preakness, although unless she suffers an injury pre-race and is scratched, chances are looking good that she’ll be in the field on May 16. And given that, oddsmakers are casting her as the favorite.
