2009 Preakness Odds: Entry Take The Points a Long Shot at 22/1 to Win

One of the more intriguing long shots in this year’s running of the Preakness Stakes is Take The Points, whom oddsmakers have listed as a 20/1 long shot to win.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.COM have made Take The Points a 22/1 long shot, but his previous race history suggests that he could be the next Mine That Bird, who won the 2009 Kentucky Derby despite being a massive 50/1 long shot.

In his 2008 debut, Take The Points finished fourth at the Maiden Special Weight at Churchill Downs on July 5. He followed that performance up with two quality showings in his next two races.

Take The Points finished second at the Maiden Special Weight at Saratoga on August 15 of last year, then placed first at the Maiden Special Weight at Belmont Park on September 27.

Out to prove that his first place showing in his final race in 2008 wasn’t a fluke, Take The Points won at the Allowance at Gulfstream Park on January 31 to open his 2009 season. He also placed second at Sham at Santa Anita on February 28, but took a small step back at the Santa Anita Derby at Santa Anita on April 4 while finishing fourth.

Along with Tone It Down (35/1) and Terrain (25/1), Take The Points is currently among the deep long shots to win the 2009 Preakness Stakes. Rachel Alexandra (3/2), Mine That Bird (7/2), Pioneerof The Nile (6/1), Musket Man (8/1) and Papa Clem (8/1) are currently the thoroughbreds with the best odds.
