2009 Preakness Odds: Contender Papa Clem Has Short Odds at 8/1 to Win
After a quality showing at the 2009 Kentucky Derby, oddsmakers have listed Papa Clem’s odds at 8/1 to win the 134th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course.
Papa Clem was a 12/1 long shot entering the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago, but a fourth place finish at Churchill Downs have left many encouraged about his potential at the 2009 Preakness Stakes.
In his race previous to the Kentucky Derby, Papa Clem finished first at the Arkansas Derby on April 11 at Oaklawn Park. He also had back-to-back second place finishes at the Robert B. Lewis on February 7 and the Louisiana Derby on March 14, as well as a first place showing at the Maiden Special Weight at Santa Anita on December 29.
There’s plenty to like about Papa Clem, whom oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.COM establish at 8/1 odds, entering the 2009 Preakness Stakes, although he faces stiff competition in Rachel Alexandra (3/2), Pioneerof the Nile (6/1) and Musket Man (8/1). Still, based on his race history so far this year, Papa Clem stands more than a significant shot to win the 134th running of the Preakness Stakes.
