2009 Preakness Odds: Musket Man Expected to Challenge Favorites at 8/1
After a surprising showing in the 2009 Kentucky Derby, Musket Man has emerged as a mid-range favorite to win the 134th running of the Preakness Stakes.
Entering the 2009 Kentucky Derby, Musket Man was a 25/1 long shot. But after he seemingly came out of nowhere to finish third, oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.COM have listed Musket Man as 8/1 to win.
Looking at his track record, it’s surprising that Musket Man isn’t receiving more love from oddsmakers. Aside from his stellar third place showing at the Kentucky Derby, Musket Man finished first at the Illinois Derby on February 4 and first at the Tampa Bay Derby on March 14. He also racked up three first place showings at the Pasco S. on February 17, at the Allowance on November 18 of last year, and at the Maiden Special Weight on October 25 of 2008.
His only blemish in his last seven races is a third place showing at the Sam F. Davis at Tampa Bay Downs on February 14, which should hardly count as a blemish.
Oddsmakers currently have Rachel Alexandra as a 3/2 favorite to win the 2009 Preakness Stakes, while Mine That Bird (7/2), Pioneerof the Nile (6/1), Musket Man (8/1) and General Quarters (9/1) round out the top 5.
