2009 Preakness Odds: Triple Crown Contender Mine That Bird 7/2 to Win
A lot has changed in the past couple weeks. Entering the 2009 Kentucky Derby, thoroughbred Mine That Bird was a 50/1 long shot to win.
Yet after shocking the horse racing world with an incredible win at Churchill Downs, oddsmakers have established Mine That Bird’s odds to win the 2009 Preakness Stakes at 7/2.
Even after winning the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby, Mine That Bird isn’t getting total respect. Despite his victory a couple weeks ago at Churchill Downs, oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBOOK.COM have listed Mine That Bird at 9/2, which is second best to Rachel Alexandra, who is a hands down favorite at 1/1.
Despite winning the Kentucky Derby and having a shot to win horse racing’s prestigious Triple Crown, Mine That Bird’s trainer, Bennie L. Woolley, Jr., wasn’t 100% sure that he would run in the 134th running of the Preakness Stakes. But he had a change of heart and now Mine That Bird is confirmed to race at Pimlico Race Course on May 16.
In his last three races, Mine That Bird won the Kentucky Derby, finished fourth at the Sunland Derby on March 29, and placed second at the Borderland Derby on February 28. His biggest earnings of the year of course came at the Kentucky Derby, where he pulled in $1,417,200.
Along with Rachel Alexandra at 3/2, Mine That Bird (7/2) joins fellow Kentucky Derby competition Pioneerof the Nile (6/1), Musket Man (8/1) and Papa Clem (8/1) as the horses with the top odds entering the Preakness.
