Odds to win 2009 Preakness Stakes
Oddsmakers have made Rachel Alexandra a massive favorite to win the 134th running of the Preakness Stakes, which takes place Saturday, May 16.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction have made Rachel Alexandra the whopping favorite to win the 2009 Preakness Stakes at 4/5 odds. Those odds are even better than 2009 Kentucky Bird winner Mine That Bird, who is currently listed at 7/2.
One of the main reasons Rachel Alexandra is such a heavy favorite is his race history. She is coming off of three straight first place finishes at the Kentucky Oaks (May 5), Fantasy S. (April 5) and Fair Grounds Oaks (March 14). Rachel Alexandra not only won each race, but dominated the competition as well.
Entering the 2009 Kentucky Derby, Mine That Bird was a whopping 50/1 long shot to win. But in a stunning 6 ¾-length victory, Mine That Bird rallied from last place and beat out Pioneerof the Nile in midstretch to open up the field. It was the first time that Mine That Bird had won on a dirt track.
Following Rachel Alexandra at 4/5 odds and Mine That Bird at 7/2, Kentucky Derby runner up Pioneerof the Nile is 5/1 to win the 2009 Preakness Stakes, while Papa Clem and Friesan Fire are each 6/1. Friesan Fire, who was a 7/2 favorite entering the 2009 Kentucky Derby, finished a disappointing second to last.
