Horse Races Today: Friday's Gulfstream Park Analysis & Odds
May 7, 2020
By Mike Dempsey

If there is no single winner of Friday’s Jackpot 6 wager at Gulfstream Park, there will be a sizable pool on Saturday when the track offers a mandatory payout day.

The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70% of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30% is carried over to the jackpot pool.

I am not a fan of playing the wager except on mandatory payout days. If it is not hit on Friday, the pool could grow to more than $6 million on Saturday. The wager covers races 7-12.

Among the races in the sequence is the $75,000 Sunshine Forever, a 1 1/16 miles test on turf for four-year-olds and upward.

The Brian Lynch trained Admission Office is the 5-2 morning line favorite. Among his foes is last years Preakness Stakes (G1) winner War of Will, who makes his first start since a ninth in last fall’s Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1).

The Mark Casse trainee is 0 for 4 on turf but has run well. His four trips include a runner up finish in the Summer (G1) at Woodbine and a fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1).

The other major threat in the race is Social Paranoia (3-1), who is coming off a victory in the Appleton (G3) over the turf here at Gulfstream Park.

I will have selections and analysis for the race in tomorrow’s column.

Horseplayers can stream all the horse racing action using the Watch TVG App. The horse betting company based in the U.S. is offering a risk free bet up to $300 for new players.

Here is the opening race from Gulfstream Park to get the day off to a good start:

GP Race 1 Md $12,500 (1:00 ET)
#4 A Beautiful Day 5-2
#1 Subtle Joy 12-1
#2 All American Jewel 3-1
#6 Delia's Pride 15-1

Analysis: A Beautiful Day tracked the early pace, battled on gamely and did not have enough left inside the final furlong in a third-place finish last out against $16,000 foes. Two back she carved out the early fractions before tiring to finish seventh. He best effort came three back where she set the early fractions and held on to the runner up spot. With just four starts under her belt she appears to have more upside than most of this weak group. She is out of a stakes placed Broad Brush mare that has dropped five winners including a pair of turf winners. She will be out there early and there is not much early zip signed up here.

Subtle Joy faded to finish 12th last out against $25,000 foes in her first start off the claim by the Mongeon barn who took her for $16,000 two back out of a fifth-place finish. She landed in the runner up spot in three straight starts last year including one trip on turf. She drops into an easier spot here for her second start off the claim by a barn looking to get off the duck in '20. The filly is out of a Mr. Livingston mare that ash dropped four winners including two turf winners.

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Gulfstream Park:

GP Race 8 OClm $50,000SAL (4:48 ET)
#3 Montana Man 10-1
#12 Uncork the Bottle 6-1
#5 Rhythm Section 4-1
#1 Mandate 9-2

Analysis: Montana Man cuts back from nine furlongs after setting the early fractions and tiring to finish seventh last out against Alw-1 optional claimers. The winner of that race was Gufo who came back to win the English Channel in his next outing on May 2. Dibona claimed this colt for $50,000 out of his maiden win, taking him from Romans. His first start for the barn was a fourth on the main track here in a race taken off the turf. The cut back to 7 1/2 furlongs should suit him and this is an easier spot that last out.

Uncork the Bottle prompted the early pace and weakened to finish fifth on poly last out in the Rushaway at Turfway Park. The colt won his first three career starts including beating $40,000 starter optional claimers in his turf debut. He ran a decent second two back on turf in the Sage of Monticello. Joseph finds a good spot for him here and he will appreciate the class drop and surface switch.

Live Longshots:
These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.

Gulfstream Park
R1: #1 Subtle Joy 12-1
R1: #6 Delia’s Pride 15-1
R2: #1 Carson City Kid 15-1
R4: #1 Alperes 8-1
R4: #9 Jeeker Joe 10-1
R5: #3 Phantom Ro 15-1
R7: #2 Ledecky 10-1
R8: #3 Montana Man 10-1
R9: #5 Blueridge Mountain 8-1

Friday's Best Bet: Hidden Facts hardly a secret at Gulfstream
By Jarrod Horak May 8, 2020

Friday’s 10th race from Gulfstream Park is an optional claiming event for fillies and mares dashing five furlongs on the turf course (Post Time - 5:49 p.m. ET).

#6 HIDDEN FACTS (7-2) tackled stakes foes in three of her last four starts. Her three non-stakes turf sprints were very good, and Irad Ortiz Jr. hops aboard.

#1 R Happy Ending (9-2) is a consistent turf sprinter with tactical speed. The fresh mare likes this course and distance.

#5 Lady Grace (4-1) stalked and scored in both local turf sprints this year. Mark Casse’s runners has been underperforming at Gulfstream.

#7 Dixieincandyland (8-1) ran well in all five turf sprints. She exits a sharp course/distance entry level score under Joel Rosario, and she figures to stalk the pace again.

#11 Kitten’s Covergirl (6-1) is an okay turf sprinter, and she usually finishes in the top three at Gulfstream. She should be forwardly placed from the outside post.
