Brian Nadeau's Daily Picks

Oaklawn Park - Race #2
Picks Notes
#4 Elsie's First class dropper was in over her head in her local bow, but that was a very fast race for the level, she meets a very meek field here, and should offer a hint of value as well; look out.
#7 Prairie Dress Unappealing ML favorite sped off against 25k's last time then tired last, so her speed will play here, but at this 5-2 ML, with no margin for error, she's tough to trust; second-best.
#11 Tell Me I'm Pretty O'Neill firster starts for a barn having a solid meet, and one that brought horses knowing where they fit, and being unproven in a field like this isn't a bad thing either; do not ignore.
Race Summary That 6-1 ML on the pick seems very inviting, especially off the drop and the fact she should be tighter off that local bow, so give her a look in all the slots, and especially in the early Pk4 as well, since this is a deep field, and others will be played too, so in the 5-1 range she would be adding a lot of value to the sequence.

Oaklawn Park - Race #5
Picks Notes
#1 Please the Court Tactical sort didn't run poorly against better when stretched back out last time, drew perfectly here, won't be too far off the pace, and meets a group there for the taking; upset special.
#10 Napoleon's Empire The chalk wins this with his best and the stiff drop in class moves him up that much more, but this wide draw, his lack of speed, and short price all don't entice; scary, but no lock either.
#2 Peppered Fellow dropper hasn't run an inch of late but has been meeting much better, and his figures would put him right on the line here, but the gut says he's just way off form; underneath only.
Race Summary The price will be right on the 1, and the post, race flow, and competition shouldn't hurt either, so give him a look in all the slots, and especially to kick off the Pk5 as well, since he's going to get overlooked, even though he's meeting a pair who give the appearance they may have seen better days.

Oaklawn Park - Race #8
Picks Notes
#4 Silver Ride Stalker regressed in the slop last time but had a good thing going before that, meets a field with some speed to set him up, and should be a square price in a deep field; call in a scramble.
#6 Twelfth Labor FG invader has been burning a lot of money but has the right kind of running style to sit off the speed and get first run, and you have to think he'll be better than this 4-1 ML; worth a look.
#8 Candy Cornell The pick's 'mate and ML favorite blasted N1X foes in the mud last time, but he now rises in class, his fast track form isn't as sharp, and the hot pace could sweep him up; mixed signals here.
Race Summary There's enough speed here to set up the 4, who should be able to track and make his move off the far turn, and if you assume his last was just a blip on the radar, his last two make him the one to beat, so give him a look in all the slots, and especially in the Pk5/late Pk4 as well, since this is a very deep race, and a $10 winner would likely play longer in both sequences, as this is the type of spot the public will likely be spreading deep in.

Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Golden Gate - Race #4
Picks Notes
#8 Musket Powder Has every right to move forward on the move around two turns with that debut sprint under his belt, and he can show some pace on the stretchout.
#9 Totally Tiger Finisher doesn't have a ton of excuses at this point, but he drops hard for this one and may simply be too good for these.
#2 Collusion Delusion Dropper hasn't shown a ton of late interest yet, but he has been in with much better than he'll find here and wouldn't surprise.
Race Summary Musket Powder might get a touch overlooked in a spot with some serious droppers, and he showed a little bit of sprint pace in the debut that should keep him in the mix early going long.

Golden Gate - Race #6
Picks Notes
#5 Active Pass Reliable type hasn't done anything wrong in three starts, and those running lines are competitive with what it might take to win here.
#3 Mahi Mahi Check the price, because I wouldn't want anything shorter than the 3/1 ML offering, but he does his best work here and isn't out of the question.
#3 Fort McHenry Blinkers go on after chasing Authentic at 87/1 in the San Felipe, and this spot suits him much better at this point in time.
Race Summary Active Pass has enough tactical pace to work out a good trip here, and he classes up well at this level, too.

Golden Gate - Race #7
Picks Notes
#2 Justa Poppin Didn't pick up much in the debut, but that came at a higher price, and the experience coupled with the drop might wake her up.
#8 Eight O Five Speed couldn't hang on late last time out, but the running line looks competitive right back. Don't settle for an underlay here.
#5 Tiz the Standard Reliable type has had 11 chances, so she's tough to trust on top on principle, but she frequently lands underneath shares and figures capable of doing so again today.
Race Summary Justa Poppin has some upside with this softer group after she sort of just ran around the track in the debut, but there might be something better in store for her today.

Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

Gulfstream Park - Race #5
Picks Notes
#4 Sister Otoole Ran on well for 3rd in her 1st turf start, which was just her 2nd overall; closed ground in both and she appears to fit very well here, especially with a potentially lively pace in front of her.
#1 Jeana's Gem Has battled in each of her three starts and was 2nd in two of those; didn't start until age 5, has shown good speed, moves to the turf and stretches out to two turns. Clearly a contender.
#8 Aizu Improved with distance and should have no problem in moving to the turf; in the mix throughout this one.
Race Summary Sister Otoole has finished well and should find that these rivals will come back to her; ready to win.

Gulfstream Park - Race #7
Picks Notes
#7 Well Defined Takes a big step down in class and has been in several stakes races over the past year; can battle for the lead year and has the class to run very well here.
#4 Gray Beau Rolled late for 3rd in his last two and the 10-year-old needs to get it in gear a little earlier; his best would make him a power player,
#3 Yes I See Improved position in his last two and is the kind of run that will be right there in the neighborhood at the end, and might even get up if the front-runners falter late.
Race Summary Well Defined has been in some very strong races and gets a big break in class here; likely to should courage at this level.

Gulfstream Park - Race #9
Picks Notes
#2 Belle Tapisserie Is a strong front-runner, but class off a win last time and will be tough as he steps back to allowance company.
#1 Soldado Has won two of four and led gate to wire last time in his 1st since April; capable of another very good effort.
#8 Mihos Has been in some outstanding graded races and has worked well for his 1st since September; will have to get rolling earlier since most of his races have been long.
Race Summary Belle Tapisserie was claimed by the Orseno stable last out and has taken three of her last four -- all three over different tracks. Very game and he might be overlooked here.

Turfway Park - Race #2 - Post: 6:44pm - Maiden Claiming - 8.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $10,000 Class Rating: 71

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#4 SOFIA'S SLUGGER (ML=3/1)

SOFIA'S SLUGGER - This is a classic 'Lone Front-runner' scenario. If Orm gets him out of the gate cleanly it'll likely be smooth sailing. This gelding's last speed fig notched on March 7th is number one in last race Equibase speed figs.

Vulnerable Contenders: #10 BANJO BOY (ML=3/1), #2 HIGLEY O'PRADO (ML=5/1), #1 STARDUST KITTEN (ML=8/1),

BANJO BOY - This entrant showed very liitle last time finishing fourth. Don't see any hint of improvement today. This gelding registered a speed rating in his last event which probably isn't good enough in today's race. HIGLEY O'PRADO - I'd like to see more conducive recent efforts with morning line of 5/1. STARDUST KITTEN - Doesn't appear to be in a convenient circumstance this time out.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - SOFIA'S SLUGGER - Steady improvement in his speed ratings, 70 last race and 67 two races back. This thoroughbred is going to be tough against these ponies.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Go with #4 SOFIA'S SLUGGER on top if we're getting at least 1/1 odds

RECOMMENDED CHOICES
The Walker Group Picks

# 1 JUSTA POPPIN 6/1

# 10 SIZZLING GRACE 7/2

# 4 IMA SILVER LADY 20/1

JUSTA POPPIN looks competitive to best this field. This pick will feel the med change - with second time Lasix today. Should expect this pony to be right there at the finish line versus these mounts. Could beat this group given the 59 Equibase Speed Figure earned in her last outing. SIZZLING GRACE - Has been racing solidly and has among the best speed in the race for today's distance. Had one of the strongest Equibase Speed Figs of this field in her last contest. IMA SILVER LADY - Look for this horse to be close up on the wire versus these mounts. Could beat this group given the 51 speed figure posted in her last outing.

Race 3 - Maiden Claiming - 250y on the Dirt. Purse: $11300 Class Rating: 60

QUARTER HORSE 250Y, FOR MAIDENS, TWO YEARS OLD. WEIGHT, 124 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $7,500.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES
The Walker Group Picks

# 2 WELL HOT DIGGITTY 4/1

# 7 TETON 6/1

# 1 CUZ HERES UR SIGN 5/1

WELL HOT DIGGITTY looks to be a formidable contender. The Equibase class rating of today's race is much lower than her last affair. Has longshot potential and could prove victorious at big odds. With a nice class rating average of 74, has one of the most favorable class advantages in this group. TETON - Don't let this filly slip past you. Could prove victorious at boxcar odds. Should expect a much stronger effort with the drop. CUZ HERES UR SIGN - Castro will almost certainly be able to get this gelding to break out early in this race. Look for a reliable effort with the class drop.

Golden Gate Fields - Race #4 - Post: 2:18pm - Maiden Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $11,000 Class Rating: 80

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#9 TOTALLY TIGER (ML=7/2)
#5 BLUES RAPPER (ML=10/1)
#2 COLLUSION DELUSION (ML=3/1)
#6 GEM STATE (ML=9/2)

TOTALLY TIGER - I know he'll be way back, but he's got a terrific kick turning for home. This animal is utmost in earnings per race. He looks good in today's race. BLUES RAPPER - I like this racer. Should be familiar with this class level since he ran against the same type last time out at Golden Gate Fields. Gonzalez comes to get aboard after getting to know the gelding in the last event. Lets try to beat the low-odds horses with this gelding. Just missed last out, but ran a pretty decent race. COLLUSION DELUSION - Ran in the last race against much better company at Golden Gate Fields. The move down the class ladder should suit him well. GEM STATE - Finished fifth at Golden Gate Fields last out. Was close at the end and at odds of 9/2 today, he looks like a possible contender.

Vulnerable Contenders: #8 MUSKET POWDER (ML=5/1), #4 MATSON (ML=5/1),

MUSKET POWDER - Finished third in his most recent performance with a disappointing rating. When I look at today's class figure, it would take an improved performance to win after that in this bunch. MATSON - Finished eighth last time out. Would have to move up to be in the money in today's race.

Late Pick 4 at Gulfstream Park begins with Race 7 at 4:05 p.m. ET and goes through Race 10.

Gulfstream Park 7th
6 Blue Bluff (2-1): Trainer John Servis has really woken this horse up with the switch back to dirt. His last two dirt performances were impressive and would bury this field. The horses that I think can beat this horse are all coming from way off the pace. I'm making him a single "A" horse.

1 Il Faraone (12-1): Was way back last time (25 lengths behind at one point). Spent a majority of the time on the rail, and that might not have been the best part of the track on Feb 17.

3 Yes I See (7-2): Needs to break better but made a nice closing run in the last start. Has a chance if the pace is honest.

4 Gray Beau (5-2): His last race gives him a chance. I don't love the price, but this one deserves inclusion.

A: 6
B: 1,3,4

Gulfstream Park 8th
3 For Kicks (8-1) and 9 Elite Appeal (9-2): The pace of the March 1 race, which they both exit, was below average. Both For Kicks and Elite Appeal made better-than-they-look runs in that race. Closing into a slow pace is the most underbet angle in racing. My concern is the lack of pace in this race, but I am hopeful that it turns into a sprint for home. These are the two that I want.

I'll back these up on my "B" ticket with 1 Jost Sayin (7-2), 6 Cassidy's Smile (6-1), 7 Karenina (3-1) and 8 Too Much War (6-1).

A: 3,9
B: 1,6,7,8

Gulfstream Park 9th
1 Soldado (9-5): I don't love the rail draw, but I love the connections (trainer Todd Pletcher and jockey Luis Saez). I also am interested that he is 2-for-2 off a layoff.

10 Balandeen (6-1): The last race was weird. It looked as if he could have made the lead but didn't. I like the outside draw and think he has a big shot in this spot.

8 Mihos (9-2): One time Kentucky Derby hopeful runs in this optional claiming event but does not run for a tag. The distance is a concern, but class is not. Deserves to be an "A" horse on class alone.

A: 1,8,10

Gulfstream Park 10th
1 Peacock Kitten (8-5): This one will have a great foundation after starting with trainer Mike Maker. Was claimed for $35,000 in December and now shows up for $16,000. His new trainer, Saffie Joseph Jr., wins at a high-percentage (26 percent lifetime starting a horse for the first time and 28 percent in 2020). I love the inside draw for a horse that is much the best on paper. Should save ground on both turns. No "B" horses necessary. This is all we need.

A: 1

Wagers
All-A ticket
$4 Pick 4: 6 with 3,9 with 1,8,10 with 1 ($24)

Three-A, one-B tickets
$2 Pick 4: 1,3,4 with 3,9 with 1,8,10 with 1 ($36)

Bob Weir

Early Pick 3 on the card at Oaklawn Park begins with Race 2 at 2:58 p.m. ET and ends with Race 4.

Oaklawn 2nd
2 Red Lingerie (10-1): Has lost her last two races by a combined 37 lengths, but I think there is reason for optimism. Her race on Feb. 2 was against maiden claiming $50,000 and off a short layoff. She showed good speed to the turn, got squeezed a little and then coasted home. In her last race, she dropped to maiden claiming $25,000, again tracked a solid pace going a route and was in contention at the six-furlong mark but tired and was not pushed down the stretch. She's now on her third race off a layoff, cuts back in distance and drops to maiden claiming $12,000, probably where she should have been all along. Ready for best effort.

7 Prairie Dress (5-2): Should be the pace pressure on Red Lingerie. Improved in second start and drops again to this class.

4 Elsie's First (6-1): Similar to Red Lingerie - drops in price, cuts back to sprint - but has not shown the early pace of Red Lingerie. May be running late.

10 Lil Respect (10-1): Started career with four races that would beat this field. However, after being claimed, she has now run two poor races, including finishing sixth as the favorite in last. No obvious excuse, but may bounce back.

A: 2,7
B: 4,10

Oaklawn 3rd:
9 Bettyann (3-1): Strange lineup for a race that is limited to horses that have never won three races. In fact, six of the nine have never won TWO races. Of the three that fit the condition, Bettyann looks like the clear pick. She has spent most of her career racing in tougher allowance events. Her one drop into a claiming race produced her last win, in November. Since getting to Oaklawn, she has tried in statebred allowances with little success but has continued to show good early pace. She will be the lone "A" selection.

3 Bendi Blu (10-1): Returned in a route off a long layoff, made a slight move into the stretch and was overmatched. Has some back races that are competitive and could move forward off that return run.

A: 9
B: 3

Oaklawn 4th
2 Weast Hill (4-1): Has been facing better and gets some needed class relief. Gelding likes the trip (8-of-24 at the distance) and the track (8-of-20 at Oaklawn Park).

10 Holdthismiss (5-2): Has not raced since February 2019. If he's able to approach any of those efforts, he will win. But that's a big if for the potential favorite. He's a must-use but hard to trust.

8 Academy Bay (3-1): Comes off two solid efforts but still lost both by a neck. Should get perfect trip. Will just have to finish the job.

A: 2,8,10
B: 3,4,5

Wagers

$4 Pick 3: 2,7 with 9 with 2,8,10 ($24)
