Wednesday`s streaking goaltenders
Associated Press
Wed, Nov 29, 2006

Information taken from Associated Press NHL previews

Nashville Predators at Philadelphia Flyers Total: 6

The Flyers have allowed six power-play goals in 24 opportunities in the last five games, and may need another solid performance from Antero Niittymaki, who`s expected to start Wednesday after making 68 saves in the last two games. He last won three consecutive starts from March 18-25.

The goaltender dropped his only start against the Predators, making 32 stops in a 4-3 shootout loss Dec. 3, 2005.

Chris Mason made 32 saves for Nashville on Saturday to improve to 4-1-1 with a 2.47 goals-against average in seven games. Mason has taken over as the starter after Tomas Vokoun suffered a torn ligament in his left thumb Thursday. Vokoun is expected to be out 2-6 weeks after undergoing surgery Monday.

San Jose Sharks at Minnesota Wild Total: 5 1/2

Vesa Toskala and Evegeni Nabokov have alternated starts this season and if the Sharks (18-7-0) continue that trend, Nabokov will get the nod against the Wild (13-9-1). He is 6-5 with a 2.31 goals-against average this season and tied for the NHL lead with three shutouts, including a 2-0 win over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday.

Toskala followed his counterpart`s lead on Tuesday, making 29 saves in a 2-0 victory over the St. Louis Blues. It was his second shutout of the season and improved his record to 12-2 with a 1.98 GAA.

Nabokov has been between the pipes for both games against the Wild this season, posting one win, one loss and a 2.50 GAA.

Manny Fernandez has been in goal for both games against the Sharks and is 8-4 with a 1.97 GAA in 13 career games versus San Jose, which is tied for his most wins against any opponent.
