The Stanley Cup Finals shift to St. Louis with the Blues and the Boston Bruins tied a 1-1. That came courtesy of a 3-2 victory by the Blues in overtime in Game 2 that evened the series.

Twice the Boston Bruins had the lead in this contest. The first lead came 4:44 into the contest when Charlie Coyle scored his seventh goal of the playoffs. The power-play goal made it 1-0, but St. Louis would tie it about five minutes later on Robert Bortuzzo’s second goal of the post-season. Forty seconds later, Boston was back on top when Joakim Nordstrom scored his third goal of the playoffs. The lead lasted just over four minutes when Vladimir Tarasenko would tie the score again, netting his 10th goal.

A wild first period turned into a tense, tight-checking second and third. Neither team would find the back of the net, sending the contest into overtime where Carl Gunnarsson would score his first goal of the playoffs just 3:51 into the extra frame to give St. Louis the victory, tying the series at one.

Featured Game

Boston Bruins (-104) vs. St. Louis Blues (-115)

Boston Notes

Brad Marchand remains hot for Boston, leading the team in scoring with 19 points. He has a goal and three of his last four games and has scored four goals and added six assists over his last nine games.

David Pastrnak has also played well, scoring 16 points in the postseason. In his last nine games, he has three goals and five assists, including an assist in the overtime loss on Wednesday.

St. Louis Notes

The victory by St. Louis in Game 2 snap a nine-game losing streak against the Bruins in playoff meetings. The victory shifted the odds as St. Louis is now the favorite for the upcoming contest.

After missing five straight games with an upper-body injury, it looks like Vince Dunn will finally suit up for Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals. He has been skating since May 25 but has been out since the first period of Game 3 of the Western Conference finals. The injury occurred when he took a shot in the mouth off the stick of Brenden Dillon. Dunn has two goals and five assists in 16 playoff games this year.

Goaltending Matchup:

Except for a wild first period (at least by Stanley Cup Finals standards), both goaltenders looked spectacular. Tuukka Rask stopped 34 of 37 shots but saw his eight games winning streak come to an end with the overtime loss. He still has allowed just five goals in the Stanley Cup Finals and his goals-against average are in the playoffs is still below two at 1.91. Rask has posted a .939 save percentage and is having the best postseason of his distinguished NHL career.

Jordan Binnington is building quite a legacy in his rookie season. The goaltender gave up two early first-period goals, then kept the Bruins out of the net for the remainder of the contest. The defense did an amazing job in front of him, allowing only 23 shots through nearly 64 minutes of play. Binnington now has a 2.37 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage through the first 21 games of the playoffs.

Stat Pack:

Bruins:
Goals For: 3.32
Goals Against: 2.00
Power-Play: 31.7%
Penalty Killing: 87.5%

Blues:
Goals For: 2.95
Goals Against: 2.57
Power-Play: 17.9%
Penalty Killing: 78.4%

Trends to Know

Boston Bruins are:

4-0 in their last four games on the road.
1-4 in their last five Stanley Cup Finals games.
35-16 in their last 51 games.

St. Louis Blues are:

19-7 in their last 26 games at home.
37-18 in their last 55 games.
7-2 in their last nine games at home when facing a team with a winning record on the road.

Prediction

If history repeats itself in this postseason, neither team is going to come out of these two games in St. Louis with a commanding lead. The reality is that this series is going to be tied when it heads back to Boston for Game 5 because this is simply how these two teams have played when the first two contests of the series went 1-1.

Now, the pick is to decide which team wins Game 3. Like Boston fed off of their crowd for Game 1, the same thing should be expected for the Blues in this contest. Look for the same tempo that we saw in Game 2 to start this contest before St. Louis settles down to hang on to the victory.

The total is set at 5.0, which is what we would believe to be the total in this contest. This game is likely to end with St. Louis winning once again 3-2. However, we can’t go with the push here. If we are forced to take an over or under then we take the under, as the Blues prevail 3-1.

Stanley Cup Final Game 3 – Boston Bruins at St. Louis Blues

The Stanley Cup Final heads to St. Louis for Game 3 on Saturday night on NBCSN, as the Boston Bruins visit the St. Louis Blues. This best-of-seven series is tied 1-1 after the Blues pulled out a 3-2 overtime win in Game 2 on Wednesday.

The scene at Enterprise Center on Saturday night will be crazy, as the Blues play their first home game in the Stanley Cup Finals in nearly 50 years.

Let’s look at Game 3.

Boston Bruins at St. Louis Blues

Date and Time: Saturday, June 1, 8:00 p.m. ET
Location: Enterprise Center, St. Louis, MO
Game 3 Odds: Blues -115, O/U 5 Over (-145)
Bruins vs. Blues TV Coverage: NBCSN

The Blues evened up this series as defenseman Carl Gunnarsson scored in overtime to give the Blues a 3-2 win in Game 2 on Wednesday. The teams traded goals in a high scoring first period that ended 2-2 and then neither team scored in the next two periods. Jordan Binnington made 21 saves for the Blues and St. Louis won their first Stanley Cup Final game in history after losing their previous 13.

The Bruins got goals from Charlie Coyle and Joakim Nordstrom and Tuukka Rask made 33 saves for Boston, but the Bruins were outplayed for much of Game 2. The overtime was completely dominated by St. Louis, as the Bruins didn’t even register a shot. The Blues scored after Alexander Steen drew a hooking penalty. "He got a second chance at it and made the most of it," forward Brayden Schenn said to the media about Gunnarsson’s goal. "The boys are happy for him."

The Bruins admitted that they didn’t play as well as they could have on Wednesday. "It was kind of like a crazy first. We got the lead, tie, lead, tie, kind of bounced back and forth," Rask said to the media, "It probably wasn't our best game today."

Boston head coach Bruce Cassidy said to the media that the Blues simply played harder. "They seemed to play with more urgency than they did in Game 1. We played with less. They were on top of us, tighter than in the first game. We didn't seem to win as many races as we did in Game 1," Cassidy said. "Some of that was self-inflicted. Some of that was how they played."

Key Stats

The Bruins are 4-0 in their last 4 road games. The Bruins are 5-1 in their last 6 games as an underdog. The Bruins are 26-8 in their last 34 games playing with 2 days of rest. The Bruins are 45-18 in their last 63 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game.

Looking at the total, the Under is 5-0 in the Bruins last 5 road games. The Under is 9-4-1 in the Bruins last 14 games playing with 2 days of rest.

Betting On Virtual Motorsports Betting On Virtual Motorsports Virtual motorsport races are drawing a lot of attention from sportsbooks and their players. For those in the sports betting world, the cancellation of major sports has left us with few wagering options. But while fans of basketball, baseball, or hockey are patiently waiting to see their favorite players return to action, motor racing bettors don't have to wait at all. Competitive motor racing barely missed a beat when COVID-19 shut down sports worldwide, thanks to the realism of virtual racing simulators. These programs are used regularly by drivers to keep their skills sharp without the high cost of real track practice. Therefore, many of the top racers in the world entered eSports tournaments just days after real-world events were canceled. The first of these events were held in March and became so popular that sportsbooks began to take notice and offer odds. This is an excellent opportunity for any bookmaker to use the momentum of this sport to fill the gaps left in the absence of most leagues. The success of these events just goes to show how far the realism of simulation racing has come in the eSports era. With professionals now involved, along with the sanctioning bodies of F1, NASCAR & IndyCar, sim racing has been put into the spotlight. Make no mistake; the age of competitive virtual motorsports is upon us. With that in mind, let's explore the big three leagues going on right now that you can bet on. eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series The NASCAR season was put on hiatus after just four races, but a new form of the sport is experiencing an explosion in popularity. The NASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational was created to pick up where the Cup Series left off and use the iRacing platform to finish the season. Taking place each Sunday, this series pits NASCAR drivers and dignitaries against one another on a virtual track. Names such as Dale Earnhardt Jr., Denny Hamlin, Jeff Gordon, and Kyle Bush are a big reason for the early success. The iRacing platform makes the action feel as genuine as possible and is used for training on off days. Denny Hamlin suggested that around half of the people who work for or with NASCAR already have home setups, including wheels and pedals in their homes. This allowed for a quick transition for many races from the real to the digital world. The success of this new form of competition has been undeniable. The races run so far have been watched by hundreds of thousands of people worldwide to rave reviews. The odds are available now for upcoming races at Dover and Martindale speedways. William Byron is 3/1 favorite to win both after taking the checkered flag in the last two races and Top-8 finishes in the other two. Timmy Hill is also a guy to keep an eye on. Hill has finished in the Top-3 in all but one race this year and is 15/2 heading into Dover. INDYCAR iRacing Challenge iRacing has also teamed up with INDYCAR to host a virtual racing series while real races are on hold. The competitors are a mix of NTT INDYCAR Series drivers, along with some special invitees such as F1 racer Lando Norris. Norris was a special guest driver for Arrow McLaren for last week's race at the Circuit of the Americas. The 20-year-old dominated the field in fact as he beat out the other 33 drivers on the virtual road course in Texas. Norris had more than 20,000 viewers watching his Twitch stream alone. The races last around 70 minutes and are broadcasted live on NBCSN with live commentary just like a day at the track would have. There is even a pre-race show featuring a national anthem presentation and more. The list of drivers includes seven Indianapolis 500 winners and features names like Josef Newgarden, Scott Dixon, Ryan Hunter-Reay, and Simon Pagenaud. F1 eSports Virtual Grand Prix Series With the real-world Formula 1 series postponed, the F1 eSports Virtual GP series has stepped into the spotlight. Professional drivers, retired legends, full-time gamers, and celebrities go head to head in events that mirror the real-life series. This gives bettors a chance to continue watching and wagering on competitive racing on weekends. The major difference with the F1 Virtual Series is the platform that is utilized. Formula One has its own branded title developed by Codemasters. While not as realistic as the iRacing software, it is still a popular alternative for fans to watch. It must also be mentioned that this series is not a part of the competitive eSports series that is also currently active. This series is more of an exhibition event and features racers of varying driving and gaming talent. Races are 28 laps or less and follow qualifying to determine the starting positions for each race. The first race saw participants ranging from current F1 drivers Nicholas Latifi and Lando Norris, reserve talent Stoffel Vandoorne and Esteban Gutierrez, and legend Nico Hülkenburg. Formula 2 racers, Academy drivers, and pros from other series filled out the starting grid. Odds for these events have been popular betting options over the last few weeks. Heading into the next event, Team Renault is favorites to win a 4/1 with McLaren (5/1) and Mercedes (6/1), taking the next two spots on the odds board. The latter is an interesting play at those odds considering Guiterrez and Vandoorne are both F1 test drivers and gamers, making Mercedes a strong contender. These are just three of the major series going on right now, but IMSA, Porche, and the WRC all have eSports events running on a weekly basis. These series will continue to run and provide betting options even when real-world racing returns to action. This is the perfect time for the sports betting industry to embrace not only eSports but the competitive virtual racing scene. PayPerHead® agents can stand to benefit massively from this emerging sport. Especially during these trying times, having a weekly event for fans to bet on is a powerful thing. Any time you can get your clients interested in new events is time well spent. If your pay per head service provider does not include eSports on their list of odds, then it might be time to find a better option. At PayPerHead®, we pride ourselves on offering odds on a slew of virtual and simulation sports to keep your players busy while we await the return of major sports nationwide.
