It’s a change of scenery in Round 2 of the Stanley Cup playoffs, as the Boston Bruins travel to Ohio to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets in a series tied at one. The other series on Tuesday, April 30, is also tied at one, as the San Jose Sharks had to Colorado to take on the Avalanche.

Featured Games

Boston Bruins (+100) vs. Columbus Blue Jackets (-120)

You can`t ask for a more intense series than this one, as both contests have headed into overtime. That includes Game 2, a game that the Columbus Blue Jackets won 3-2 in the double-overtime evening their series with the Boston Bruins at one game apiece. Each team would net their first goal of the game on the power play. Boston would retake the lead a little over two minutes into the second period, but Columbus would tie it exactly 6 minutes later. That forced the game into overtime and then into a second overtime where Matt Duchene would score his fourth goal of the playoffs at 3:42 to give Columbus the victory

Goaltending Matchup:

No one can blame Tuukka Rask for the Game 2 loss. The Boston netminder saved 38 of 41 shots he faced and has allowed five total goals through the first 149 minutes of play in this series. Rask has a 2.24 goals-against average and a .927 goals-against average to the first nine games of the playoffs.

Sergei Bobrovsky got some outstanding defense in front of him, as he faced just 31 shots in Game 2, stopping 29 of them. Bobrovsky has also allowed five goals through the first two games of the series. He has a 2.01 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage through his first six games of the playoffs.

Trends to Watch:

The Boston Bruins are…

4-1 in their last five games on the road.
25-12 in their last 37 games.
1-5 in their last six conference semifinals games.

The Columbus Blue Jackets are…

7-1 in their last eight games at home.
12-2 in their last 14 games.
5-1 in their last six games against teams with a winning record.

Stat Pack: (Playoff Numbers)

Bruins:
Goals For: 3.11
Goals Against: 2.44
Power-Play: 33.3%
Penalty Killing: 79.2%

Blue Jackets:
Goals For: 4.00
Goals Against: 2.17
Power-Play: 38.9%
Penalty Killing: 87.5%

Prediction

This has been an exciting series to this point, and shouldn`t change any as it heads to Columbus. The Bruins have played well on the road, but the Blue Jackets have made their home ice a death trap for opponents. Bobrovsky looks like he has shaken off the rust from a weeklong layoff and the defense was stellar in front of him in Game 2. We look for that to continue in Game 3 as Columbus jumps out in front in the series.

The total is set at 5.5 for this contest and considering that both games have gone under at five total goals for each contest it is easy to go with the under in this one as well. We expect another 2-2 as regulation ends, sending this contest to overtime as well where the Columbus Blue Jackets win, 3-2.

San Jose Sharks (-104) vs. Colorado Avalanche (+115)

The Colorado Avalanche tied this series with a 4-3 victory in Game 2. San Jose took a 1-0 lead coming out of the first period, but three unanswered goals by Colorado put them in command of this contest. Brent Burns would cut the deficit to one before Nathan MacKinnon looked like he had sealed it with his fourth goal of the playoffs which just 62 seconds left in the contest. However, Burns would add his second goal of the game with 11 seconds left in regulation, but the Sharks could not get the equalizer as Colorado went on to win 4-3.

Goaltending Matchup:

Martin Jones did not play poorly in Game 2, allowing three goals on 31 shots. He has allowed five goals through the first two games of this series. Jones has a 3.04 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage through his first nine games in the playoffs.

Despite giving up the late goal, Philipp Grubauer looked very good in Game 2, stopping 31 of 34 shots. He has now given up seven goals in the series. In his first seven games of the playoffs, Grubauer has a 2.34 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage.

Trends to Watch:

The San Jose Sharks are…

5-1 in their last six games at home.
4-0 in their last four games.
7-3 in their last 10 games on a Sunday.

The Colorado Avalanche are…

4-1 in their last five games.
10-23 in their last 33 games on a Sunday.
3-13 in their last 16 conference semifinals games.

Stat Pack: (Playoff Numbers)

Sharks:
Goals For: 3.44
Goals Against: 3.44
Power-Play: 23.7%
Penalty Killing: 73.5%

Avalanche:
Goals For: 3.29
Goals Against: 2.71
Power-Play: 20.0%
Penalty Killing: 78.9%

Prediction

Could this be déjà vu for the Colorado Avalanche, dropping the first game of their series before sweeping their opponent in the next four contests? Or is this just business as usual for the San Jose Sharks, splitting the first two games, maybe even falling behind in the series before battling back to win? Truthfully, Game 3 is not that pivotal for San Jose at all but is a big deal to Colorado. They clearly want to maintain home-ice advantage now, so look for them to come out flying on their way to victory.

The total is set at 6.0 for this contest, and these two teams have produced seven goals in each of the first two games. We expect the over here as well, as Colorado wins 5-3.
