There are seven fantastic games scheduled in the National Hockey League on Monday, March 11. This starts with a great Atlantic Division battle between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Toronto Maple Leafs as well as the San Jose Sharks traveling to take on the Minnesota Wild. In other great action, the Columbus Blue Jackets face the New York Islanders.

San Jose Sharks (-125) vs. Minnesota Wild (+115)

The San Jose Sharks have come out of nowhere to take the lead in the Pacific Division with 90 points (41-19-8). San Jose is 18-14-3 on the road this season and are 7-2-1 in their last 10, including winning their last four. The Minnesota Wild are in fifth in the Central Division with 74 points (33-28-8). Minnesota is 14-13-6 at home this season and they are 6-2-2 in their last 10.

Goaltending Matchup:

Martin Jones will be in net for San Jose. Jones is 33-13-4 this season with a 2.89 goals-against average and a .898 save percentage. He has won his last four starts, giving up two goals in each of his last three starts. Jones is 6-3-1 in his last 10 starts.

Devan Dubnyk is 27-22-3 for Minnesota with a 2.59 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage. He lost his last decision, giving up three goals on seven shots before he was pulled. However, that snapped a personal six-game winning streak.

Hot Trends:

The San Jose Sharks are…

7-2 in their last nine games on the road.
20-7 in their last 27 games.
5-0 in their last five games against teams from the Central.

The Minnesota Wild are…

6-0 in their last six games against teams with a winning percentage greater than .600.
3-7 in their last 10 games against teams from the Pacific.
1-7 in their last eight games at home.

Stat Pack:

Sharks:
Goals For: 3.62
Goals Against: 3.04
Power-Play: 25.4%
Penalty Killing: 81.0%

Wild:
Goals For: 2.75
Goals Against: 2.87
Power-Play: 20.0%
Penalty Killing: 80.0%

Prediction

Traditionally, Minnesota has dominated the series. They have won six of the last eight contests and have won 10 of the last 13 in Minnesota. In addition, the home team has won 20 of the last 28 meetings. However, we throw all that out the window here. San Jose is playing like a team that expects to be in the Stanley Cup finals while Minnesota is trying to still determine if this even is a playoff team.

The total is set at 6.0. These two teams have gone under in four of the last five meetings in Minnesota and Minnesota has gone under in eight of the last 11 at home. Both goaltenders are playing pretty well right now and we see this as a tight checking, low-scoring affair. Take the San Jose Sharks to win 3-2.

Two Games to Watch

Tampa Bay Lightning (-105) vs. Toronto Maple Leafs (-116)

The Tampa Bay Lightning lead in the Atlantic Division with 108 points (52-13-4), and have a 19 point lead over the Toronto Maple Leafs who are in third in the division with 89 points (42-21-5). Tampa Bay is 23-7-2 on the road this season and is 8-2-0 in their last 10 games. Toronto is 21-12-1 at home and they are 6-2-2 in their last 10.

Why Tampa Bay Wins:

Lightning are 40-11 in their last 51 games.
Lightning are 5-0 in their last five games on a Monday.
Lightning have won five of the last seven meetings.
Lightning have won five of the last seven meetings in Toronto.
Andrei Vasilevskiy has allowed three goals or less in 10 straight starts and has a 1.60 goals-against average in that span.

Why Toronto Wins:

Maple Leafs are 6-2 in their last eight games.
Maple Leafs are 39-16 in their last 55 games at home.
Home team has won four of the last five meetings.
Frederik Andersen has allowed three goals or less in his last 10 starts.

What About the Total?

Go under 6.5, because…

Total has gone under in nine of the last 14 meetings.
Vasilevskiy has a 1.60 goals-against average over his last 10 starts.
Andersen has a 2.50 goals-against average over his last 10 starts.
Tampa Bay has gone under in four of their last five.

Columbus Blue Jackets (-105) vs. New York Islanders (-116)

This Metropolitan Division battle pits two teams jockeying for playoff position. The New York Islanders are in second in the division with 85 points (39-22-7), while the Columbus Blue Jackets are in fifth with 79 points (38-27-3). Columbus is 20-11-1 on the road this season and they are 5-5-0 in their last 10. New York is 20-11-4 at home and they are 4-5-1 in their last 10.

Why Columbus Wins:

Blue Jackets are 6-2 in their last eight games on the road.
Blue Jackets are 8-3 in their last 11 games on Monday.
Islanders are 3-8 in their last 11 games on a Monday.
Islanders are 2-5 in their last seven against teams with a winning record.
Sergei Bobrovsky has allowed one goal in each of his last two starts.

Why New York Wins:

Islanders are 6-2 in their last eight games when playing on one day’s rest.
Blue Jackets are 2-5 in their last seven against teams with a winning record.
Islanders are 5-2 in the last seven games between these two teams in New York.
Home team has won eight of the last 14 meetings.

What About the Total?

Go under 6.0, because…

Total has gone under in five of the last seven meetings.
Bobrovsky has allowed a single goal in each of his last two starts.
Columbus has gone under in four of their last five games.
Columbus has gone under in their last four games on the road.
New York has gone under in 18 of their last 26 against teams with a winning record.
