NHL – TRENDS OF THE DAY

There are only five games scheduled in the National Hockey League on Friday, February 22, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be great action on the ice. There should be a fantastic battle in Nevada as the Vegas Golden Knights welcome the Winnipeg Jets to town. In other great action, the Anaheim Ducks battle the Calgary Flames in a Pacific Division battle and the Colorado Avalanche take on the Chicago Blackhawks in a Central Division affair.

Lines provided by BetDSI Sportsbook. Get the trends for all National Hockey League Games here.

Winnipeg Jets (+120) vs. Vegas Golden Knights (-150)

This should be a great Western Conference battle, pitting the Winnipeg Jets, first in the Central Division with 76 points (36-20-4), against the Vegas Golden Knights, third in the Pacific Division with 69 points (32-25-5). Winnipeg is 15-13-0 on the road this season and are 4-4-2 in their last 10 games. Vegas is 15-16-1 at home this year and are 3-6-1 in their last 10.

Goaltending Matchup:

Winnipeg will start Connor Hellebucyk. Hellebuyck is 26-17-2 this season with a 2.98 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage. He has struggled of late, losing his last two starts, giving up 11 total goals. Hellebuyck is 5-4-1 in his last 10 starts.

Marc-Andre Fleury Will start for Vegas. Fleury is 29-18-3 with a 2.60 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage. He has lost his last three starts, giving up 14 total goals in that span. Fleury is 3-6-0 in his last nine starts.

Hot Trends:

The Winnipeg Jets are…

2-5 in their last seven on the road.
4-1 in their last five against Pacific Division teams.
10-4 in their last 14 against teams with a winning record.

The Vegas Golden Knights are…

1-5 in their last six games.
1-6 in their last seven games at home.
2-5 in their last seven against teams with a winning record.

Stat Pack:

Jets:
Goals For: 3.35
Goals Against: 2.95
Power-Play: 24.7%
Penalty Killing: 79.4%

Golden Knights:
Goals For: 2.90
Goals Against: 2.79
Power-Play: 17.4%
Penalty Killing: 83.4%

Prediction

The Golden Knights have won four of the first five meetings between these two teams, however, Vegas enters this contest struggling of late. Both teams have outstanding goaltending, but the Jets have clearly been the better team. With Vegas losing six of their last seven at home it is hard to give them the benefit of the doubt in this contest. However, Hellebuyck allowed seven goals in his last start against another struggling team, the Colorado Avalanche. That is why we go with the Vegas Golden Knights in this contest.

The total is set at 6.5 in this game and we look for the over. Fleury allowed six goals in his last start and Hellebuyck allowed seven in his last outing. Both of these teams have solid offenses, as Winnipeg has one of the best in the NHL. Look for the Vegas Golden Knights to win, 5-4.

Two Games to Watch

Anaheim Ducks (+210) vs. Calgary Flames (-260)

This Pacific Division battle pits two teams that are in opposite ends of the division. The Calgary Flames are in first with 81 points (37-16-7), while the Anaheim Ducks are in sixth place with 57 points (24-27-9). Anaheim is 12-18-1 on the road this season and is 3-7-0 in their last 10, however, they have won their last two games. Calgary is 19-5-5 at home this season and they are 5-3-2 in their last 10, winning their last three games.

Why Anaheim Wins:

Flames are 5-11 in their last 16 games on Friday.
Ducks are 5-1 in last six games in Calgary.
Ducks are 41-13 in the last 54 meetings.
David Rittich gave up six goals in his last start.

Why Calgary Wins:

Flames are 8-2 in their last 10 at home.
Flames are 8-3 in their last 11 against teams with a losing record.
Ducks are 6-20 in their last 26 games.
Ducks are 1-6 in their last seven on the road.
Home team has won 55 of the last 74 meetings.
Jon Gibson has lost four straight, giving up 18 total goals in that span.

What About the Total?

Go under 6.0, because…

These two teams have gone under in each of their last six games.
Anaheim has the lowest scoring offense in the NHL.
Anaheim has gone under in five of their last seven games.

Colorado Avalanche (-110) vs. Chicago Blackhawks (-110)

This great Central Division battle pits two teams that are tied for fifth in the division. Both teams enter this contest with 61 points with Colorado at 25-24-11 and Chicago at 26-26-9. The Avalanche are 13-12-6 on the road this season while Chicago is 14-11-6 at home. The Blackhawks are 8-2-0 in their last 10 games while Colorado is 3-4-3 in their last 10. Both teams have won their last two games.

Why Colorado Wins:

Semyon Varlamov has allowed just one goal combined in his last two starts.
Varlamov has allowed four total goals in his last four outings.
Cam Ward has allowed at least four goals in each of his last three starts

Why Chicago Wins:

Blackhawks are 8-0 in their last eight games against teams with a losing record.
Blackhawks are 10-2 in their last 12 games.
Avalanche are 2-9 in their last 11 games against teams with a losing record.
Avalanche are 8-23 in their last 31 games.
Ward has won two straight games and eight of his last 10.

What About the Total?

Go under 7.0, because…

Total has gone under in four of the last five meetings.
Varlamov has a 1.00 goals-against average in his last four starts.

Blackhawks an Over bettor's dream and this weekend's NHL odds and analysis
Monty Andrews

The Chicago Blackhawks have become one of the best Over bets in the NHL – and the fireworks could fly Friday night against a Colorado Avalanche team coming off a seven-goal outburst of its own. That matchup highlights an action-packed weekend on the ice, including the latest chapter in the Canadiens-Maple Leafs rivalry and the Winnipeg Jets looking to extend their dominance over Arizona. Here are the top matchups, betting tips and trends to monitor entering what should be a fun stretch of hockey.

Beware the Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks have been the most prolific team since the end of the All-Star break but will they meet their match? That's the question bettors are asking as the Blackhawks – who have averaged 4.9 goals since returning from the break – host a Colorado Avalanche team coming off an impressive 7-1 thumping of the powerhouse Winnipeg Jets. While Colorado is 19-5-2 O/U in its past 26 road games against teams with losing home records, the Blackhawks have an even more impressive Over trend going: they're 21-5-2 O/U in their last 28 games against sub-.500 teams.

Advantage: Maple Leafs

There was a time when the Toronto Maple Leafs couldn't buy a win over their long-time rivals from Montreal. But lately, it's the Canadiens who are starving for success as they visit the hated Leafs in a Saturday night showdown. Toronto has won six straight meetings in the head-to-head series, limiting Montreal to just 10 goals over that span. The Canadiens had been on the other end of the ledger for a while, winning 14 consecutive meetings prior to Toronto's recent dominance. The Leafs have also outscored the Canadiens by an eye-popping 11-4 margin in the previous three games at Scotiabank Arena.

Slumping Sabres

The Washington Capitals might be catching the Buffalo Sabres at the right time – not that they need the help. The Capitals visit KeyBank Center having won 11 of their previous 13 trips to Buffalo dating back to the latter stages of the 2014-15 – and if that weren't enough of a concern for Buffalo fans, their team is surrendering 4.0 goals per game since the All-Star break, the most of any team in the league. Offense has also been a major issue for the Sabres against the defending Stanley Cup champions, who have limited Buffalo to two or fewer goals in seven of their previous 11 meetings.

Jet Fuel

Sunday marks the latest meeting between the franchise that used to be in Winnipeg and the one that's based there now. The current version of the Jets has had its way with the former iteration in a significant way. Winnipeg has reeled off 14 victories in the previous 17 meetings with the Arizona Coyotes heading into their weekend tilt at Gila River Arena. That includes a five-game winning streak during which the Jets have piled up 23 goals while conceding just 11. The teams are averaging just under 6.5 goals per game over their previous 13 head-to-head encounters.

Goalie Profile: Ben Bishop, Dallas Stars

The Stars are clinging to a Western Conference wild card spot as the calendar drifts toward the end of February – but unlike previous seasons, they have their goaltending to thank for even being in the playoff hunt. Bishop has been one of the most underappreciated goaltenders in the league this season, posting a 19-12-2 record with three shutouts while ranking fifth among qualified netminders in goals-against average (2.30) and tied for fifth in save percentage (.924). He's a major reason why the Stars are a respectable 17-16-3 SU in games in which they're outshot.

Injury Update: F Nazem Kadri, Toronto Maple Leafs

The Maple Leafs' forward depth will take a hit, at least in the short term, after Kadri suffered a concussion in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime loss to the St. Louis Blues. Kadri was ruled out for Thursday's game against the Capitals, and it isn't known whether he will be available over the weekend. The 28-year-old had been struggling of late with two goals and an assists through 10 February games, but the Maple Leafs have been solid despite his slump, having gone 6-2-2 SU for the month. That said, Toronto is an incredible 19-3-1 SU in 22 games in which Kadri has recorded at least one point this season.

Hat Trick Trends

The Anaheim Ducks have garnered plenty of attention for their woeful scoring and lack of defense since the break – but there's a team right on their heels in both regards. The Minnesota Wild are averaging the second-fewest goals per game in the second half (2.20), while their average goal differential of -1.50 is also second-worst in the league.

At the other end of the spectrum, two teams have stood out as dominant forces since the unofficial start of the second half of the season. The St. Louis Blues have the strongest average goal differential in the NHL over that stretch at +2.30, while the Tampa Bay Lightning – the odds-on favorite to win the Stanley Cup – are close behind at +2.09.

If you're looking for a sure thing on the totals side, taking the Stars to go Under on the road might be your best path to victory – at least, if past trends continue. Dallas enters the weekend having gone an incredible 5-20-5 O/U away from American Airlines Center so far this season, making it by far the most profitable road Under play in the league.
