NHL – TRENDS OF THE DAY

There are six games scheduled in the National Hockey League on Wednesday, January 23, with the most exciting game being a Western Conference battle between the Nashville Predators and the Vegas Golden Knights. In other great action, the Minnesota Wild take on the Colorado Avalanche and the St. Louis Blues travel to California to take on the Anaheim Ducks.

Lines provided by BetDSI Sportsbook. Get the trends for all National Hockey League Games here.

Featured Game

Nashville Predators (+105) vs. Vegas Golden Knights (-125)

This should be a great Western Conference battle. Nashville enters in second place in the Central Division with 62 points (29-18-4), While Vegas is in third in the Pacific Division also with 62 points with an identical 29-18-4 record. Nashville is 13-9-4 on the road this season and are 5-3-2 in their last 10 games. Vegas is 16-5-3 at home this season and they are 7-3-0 in their last 10 games.

Goaltending Matchup:

The Predators will start goaltender Pekka Rinne. Rinne is 18-12-3 this season with a 2.47 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage. He won his last start, allowing one goal on 35 shots to the Colorado Avalanche on January 21. However, he had lost his three prior starts, giving up 14 total goals in those games.

Marc-Andre Fleury is 27-13-4 for Vegas this season with a 2.50 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage. He lost his last start, giving up three goals on 21 starts to the Minnesota Wild on January 21 and has lost three of his last five starts. However, he has not given up more than three goals in any of his last 10 outings.

Hot Trends:

The Nashville Predators are…

5-13 in their last 18 games on the road.
5-2 in their last seven games when playing on one day’s rest.
9-3 in their last 12 games on the road when facing a team with a winning percentage at home of greater than .600.

The Vegas Golden Knights are…

9-3 in their last 12 games.
51-22 in their last 73 games at home.
13-6 in their last 19 games against Western Conference opponents.

Stat Pack:

Predators:
Goals For: 3.10
Goals Against: 2.61
Power-Play: 13.3%
Penalty Killing: 79.9%

Golden Knights:
Goals For: 3.04
Goals Against: 2.69
Power-Play: 18.5%
Penalty Killing: 83.6%

Prediction

It’s hard-to-find a more even matchup than this one. Both teams enter with identical records and each is scoring about half a goal more than they are allowing. The big difference in this contest is can be and special teams, where Nashville has been absolutely abysmal on the power play. Vegas hasn’t been a whole lot better, but 5% better is a lot. In a game that is going to be a tight checking affair, that’s the difference maker.

The total is set at 6.0 for this contest. Nashville has gone over in four of their last seven games while Vegas has gone under in five of their last nine. The Golden Knights have gone under in four of their last seven at home. This game has the feel of a push like a 4-2 score, but we like the goaltending matchup here. That is worth at least one goal less being scored. So, for that reason, we go under as Vegas wins 3-2.

Two Games to Watch

Minnesota Wild (+100) vs. Colorado Avalanche (-120)

Minnesota is in third place in the Central Division with 53 points (25-21-3). The Wild are 12-12-0 on the road this season and are 6-4-0 in their last 10 games. Colorado is tied for fourth in the division with 52 points (22-19-8). The Avalanche are 10-7-5 at home this season and are 3-6-1 in their last 10 games.

Why Minnesota Wins:

Wild are 5-2 in their last seven games on the road.
Wild are 7-3 in their last 10 games against division opponents.
Avalanche are 3-11 in their last 14 games.
Avalanche are 2-5 in their last seven at home.
Devan Dubnyk has allowed three total goals in his last two starts.

Avalanche have won four of the last five meetings in Colorado.
Wild are 2-5 in their last seven against teams with a losing record.

Why St. Louis Wins:

Ducks are 22-5 in last 27 meetings in Anaheim.

Ducks have gone under in four of their last five games at home.
Louis has gone under in seven of their last nine games.
