On Monday, January 21, there are four games scheduled in the National Hockey League. That includes the Nashville Predators traveling to Denver to take on the Colorado Avalanche in a series that the Predators have been dominating of late. In other action, the St. Louis Blues battle the Los Angeles Kings and the Minnesota Wild battle the Vegas Golden Knights.

Featured Game

This is a great Central Division battle. Nashville is in second in the division with 60 points (28-18-4) while Colorado is and third with 52 points (22-18-8). The Predators are 12-9-4 on the road this season and are 5-3-2 in their last 10 games. The Avalanche are 10-6-5 at home this season and are 3-5-2 in their last 10.

Goaltending Matchup:

Pekka Rinne will be in goal for Nashville. Rinne is 17-12-3 this season with a 2.51 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage. He has lost his last three starts, giving up 14 goals combined including five in each of the last two starts.

Semyon Varlamov will be in net for Colorado. Varlamov is 13-11-5 with a 2.81 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage. The Colorado goaltender won his last start, allowing just one goal on 31 shots to the Los Angeles Kings on January 19. However, prior to that, he had lost six of his seven previous starts.

Hot Trends:

The Nashville Predators are…

1-4 in their last five games.
4-13 in their last 17 games on the road.
2-6 in their last eight games against teams with a losing record.

The Colorado Avalanche are…

1-4 in their last five games against teams with a winning record.
3-10 in their last 13 games.
9-4 in their last 13 games on a Monday.

Stat Pack:

Predators:
Goals For: 3.1
Goals Against: 2.7
Power-Play: 14.1%
Penalty Killing: 80.3%

Avalanche:
Goals For: 3.5
Goals Against: 3.2
Power-Play: 25.4%
Penalty Killing: 76.8%

Prediction

The Predators have dominated this series of late. They have won nine of the last 10 meetings in Colorado and are 16-5 in the last 21 meetings between these two teams. In addition, the road team has won the last five meetings between these two teams. Rinne is in a bit of a slump of late, and that looks to be the deciding factor. Look for the Colorado Avalanche to win.

The total has gone under in five straight meetings between these two teams, however, Colorado has gone over in seven of their last eight games and Nashville has gone over in four of their last six, equaling the total in the other two. The Avalanche have one of the best offenses in the NHL and with Rinne struggling this should be a high-scoring affair. Take the Colorado Avalanche, 5-3, and take the over (6.0).
