NHL – TRENDS OF THE DAY

Tuesday will be a busy night in the National Hockey League as 20 teams will take to the ice. While there is a lot of great action, no game is likely the top the Vegas Golden Knights taking on the Winnipeg Jets. In other great action the Carolina Hurricanes take on the New York Rangers in the Pittsburgh Penguins will battle the San Jose Sharks.

Featured Game

Vegas Golden Knights (+115) vs. Winnipeg Jets (-135)

Vegas is in third in the Pacific Division with 60 points (28-16-4). They are 13-12-1 on the road this season and are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games. Winnipeg is in first in the Central Division with 60 points. The Jets are 17-6-2 at home this season and are 6-4-0 in their last 10 games.

Goaltending Matchup:

Vegas will start Marc-Andre Fleury in net. Fleury is 26-11-4 this season with a 2.49 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage. He won his last start, stopping 20 of 23 shots against the Chicago Blackhawks on January 12. The Vegas goaltender has won six of his last seven starts.

Winnipeg will send Connor Hellebuyck. Hellebuyck is 20-13-1 this season with a 2.87 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage. The Winnipeg goaltender won his last start, allowing just three goals on 31 shots to the Anaheim Ducks on January 13. He has won three of his last four but has allowed 11 total goals in that span.

6-2 in their last eight games against teams with a winning record.

Stat Pack:

Golden Knights:
Goals For: 3.0
Goals Against: 2.6
Power-Play: 19.4%
Penalty Killing: 82.9%

Jets:
Goals For: 3.5
Goals Against: 2.8
Power-Play: 28.1%
Penalty Killing: 80.3%.

Prediction

This should be an outstanding game. You have two teams that are each playing exceptional hockey, two of the premier goaltenders in the NHL, and two teams that are fighting for the top position within their division. Plus, they are separated by just one point.

Vegas has won the last four meetings between these two teams, and there is no doubt that has to sit in the craw of the Winnipeg Jets. Both have exceptional penalty killing units, but Winnipeg is much better on the power-play. Plus, they are simply a better offensive club. We look for the winning streak to end, as the Jets pull off the victory in this contest.

The total is set at 6.0. These two teams have gone under in three of the last four meetings in Winnipeg and have gone under in four of the last six overall. This game should have a playoff atmosphere to it, which means tighter checking and strong goaltending. Go with the Winnipeg Jets. 3-2, so take the under.
