Falcons add Harrington
April 9th, 2007

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - The Atlanta Falcons signed free agent quarterback Joey Harrington on Monday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Harrington will likely serve as the backup to starting signal caller Michael Vick. Atlanta was in the market for a backup after the club traded Matt Schaub to the Houston Texans on March 22.

Harrington spent last year with the Miami Dolphins and started 11 games, throwing 12 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

Harrington, the former third overall pick in the 2002 draft by the Lions, spent his first four years in the league with Detroit. During his time in the Motor City, he started 55 of 58 games and threw for 10,242 yards with 60 touchdowns and 62 interceptions.

In another roster move, the Falcons released veteran defensive back Kevin Mathis, who played in just eight games last season due to a neck injury.
