Analysis:
Root Reserve—-California The Oregon Ducks may win but it will not be pretty nor pretty easy. The Ducks will try and bounce back from an upset loss against Stanford 31-24. The Ducks appeared poised for their first 5-0 start in eight years when they rallied from 10 points down at halftime to take a 24-17 lead early in the fourth quarter on Anthony Brown's second TD run of the game. They ultimately fell short after a handful of favorable calls for Stanford propelled the game into overtime. And then the season of work fell into the abyss. But it gets worst. They will be without two of their key pieces for this game against California. Leading rusher CJ Verdell is out for the season after suffering a leg injury against Stanford, and defensive back Bennett Williams will also miss the rest of the season after surgery for a broken fibula. And worst because after the Stanford loss in which the quarterback did not throw a touchdown and was intercepted once, there had been discussions of turning from starter Anthony Brown to freshman Ty Thompson going forward. Was anything forgotten about this game? Yes!! The oddsmakers know most average bettors reading this write up of information did not know the “keys” to their Stanford loss, nor injuries or a QB controversy. Or how bad head coach Mario Cristobal really is. So they are trapping Friday favorite bettors and making them pay the price at 13.5 points. Take the points.

ANALYSIS: Both clubs got their bats in a groove in the ALDS, and both come off three straight Overs. Chris Sale lasted one inning and allowed five runs in his only ALDS start against the Rays, and his team came back to win, 14-6. Framber Valdez went 4.1 innings in his last start, allowing four runs in a 9-4 win against the White Sox. Over is the top play.

ANALYSIS: Clemson isn’t the same team we’ve been accustomed to seeing. We like them every week because they’re cheap and the talent rating doesn’t equate to the spread. But in five games this season, it's been five non-covers, and the Tigers have revealed enough to say, "Stop betting them and bet against them now." Syracuse has covered its last four games and might even win this one outright. I took the Orange and all those points, as they'll be fired up.

ANALYSIS: Surprised that Alex Cora is going with Chris Sale over Nathan Eovaldi. Sale might have name recognition but wasn't particularly good in his final two regular-season outings and lasted just one inning in the ALDS vs. Tampa Bay, allowing five runs. Houston had the No. 4 OPS during the regular season vs. lefties. The Red Sox, meanwhile, were just four games over .500 vs. southpaws this year and were dominated by one in Game 1 of the ALDS. They face Houston lefty Framber Valdez, who was 2-0 with a 1.26 ERA in two starts this year vs. Boston -- which is 5-13 in its past 18 games as a road underdog.

ANALYSIS: It's the season opener for Philadelphia and probably a make-or-break year for young goaltender Carter Hart. He was spectacular in the 2019-20 season but horrible last year. I believe we will see the good version. The Flyers allowed an NHL-high 3.52 goals per game but did add a few top-notch blueliners, led by Ryan Ellis from Nashville. We faded Vancouver in its season opener in Edmonton on Wednesday -- Oilers won in a shootout -- largely because the Canucks were without young star Brock Boeser, and he's not expected to play here, either. The Nucks are 4-10 in their last 14 games a underdogs.

ANALYSIS: I was going to pass on this one but then came word the Hawks were starting backup netminder Kevin Lankinen instead of Marc-Andre Fleury, who will start Saturday. That Chicago defense remains incredibly weak even with some offseason additions and Lankinen is a huge downgrade from the Flower. It's Jonathan Bernier for New Jersey, and he was quite respectable on a very bad Detroit team last year. The Devils, in their season opener, should be better this year with offseason additions Dougie Hamilton and Ryan Graves on the blueline. There's plenty of young forward talent there too. Chicago is 6-21 its past 27 games as a road underdog.

ANALYSIS: CBS Sports Network has the telecast. I can't find a model out there that has the total coming even within five points of this number. The SportsLine Projection Model has it at 59. I think this is inflated because North Texas hung 35 on Missouri in its last game after making QB change (to Austin Aune, who is 28!!!), but at lot of those points were in garbage time with the Tigers up big. Marshall can score a bit but is among the nation's leaders in turnovers and had just 20 points last time out against Old Dominion and that went to OT. Marshall's defense has allowed only 13 points in the last six quarters plus an OT. That unit was great last year but has been up-and-down in 2021.
