The first all-FBS matchup of the 2020 college football season is Thursday night on the CBS Sports Network as Southern Miss of Conference USA hosts South Alabama of the Sun Belt. The Jaguars were one of the worst teams in the nation last year at 2-10, while the Golden Eagles reached a bowl and finished 7-6. Both offenses are likely to be rusty. The Under is 8-3 in USA's past 11 as a dog and hit in USM's final six last year. A total of 62 percent of model simulations are leaning Under. That's the play at -110.

The first thing that goes in the wake of exhaustion is defense. No team could summon the sort of defensive effort that Denver mustered against Utah twice in a row. That's a problem because the Nuggets are jumping from the NBA's No. 9 defense, which was missing its second-leading scorer, all the way up to the No. 2 Clippers. If Donovan Mitchell could roast switches against Denver, Kawhi Leonard is going to have a field day. With Patrick Beverley (calf) at less than full strength, Jamal Murray should be able to put points on the board, and Nikola Jokic is a bad matchup for Ivica Zubac. This will be a high-scoring series.

The Nuggets battled back against the Jazz to advance past the first round, but that was a Jazz team that is not nearly as talented as the Clippers, especially since Bojan Bogdanovic was out. The Clippers are rested and won both of their last two games in their series with the Mavericks by at least 14 points. The last two times they played Denver, they won each game by at least 13 points. Despite this lofty line, I like the Clippers to cover.

Both teams have been hit by player opt-outs, but appears this spread has dropped form an opener of -13 because of a handful of experienced defenders who will be out of action for Southern Miss. The Jaguars are historically sticky as underdogs, but this line move puts the value with the Golden Eagles. Quarterback Jack Abraham and his receivers should have plenty of success against a relatively inexperienced secondary. It's tough to envision South Alabama keeping up for 4 quarters, but the play is now before this spread possibly climbs back to -14 or higher.

Los Angeles will give Kershaw plenty of run support here. The Diamondbacks are 5-14 on the road, one of the worst away records. The Dodgers have won five of the six meetings this year. Arizona has dropped 12 of its last 13 overall and eight of the last nine vs. LHPs. Lay the wood. Play Los Angeles -1.5 runs at +130.

Love the clippers in this spot!
The clippers are fully rested for this game, as they have not played since Sunday and had another long layoff before that.
Denver is coming off a BATTLE against Utah, where players looked noticeably fatigued and Jamal Murray did not look 100% healthy. The clippers have the perimeter defenders to limit Murray, and the Clippers stars all played very well against Denver this year, who’s struggling more then ever on defense.
Most of what Denver did was just elite shot making against Utah, especially in Jamal Murray’s case. It’s not sustainable, and I think the Clippers dominate this series!
