It will not matter in the least that the Bruins are opening this college season on the road, as this Belmont team may have lost legendary coach Rick Byrd to retirement, but the hiring of former player and coach Casey Alexander who comes over from Lipscomb where he led that team to historic success will be a seamless fit for the Bruins who do have the core of last season's co-conference championship team back.
Belmont returns 3 starters from last year's NCAA tournament team, including center Nick Muszynski who at 6' 11" will present some real trouble in the paint for this Illinois State team.
Illinois State returns a pair of starters from last year's team, but they are welcoming in 8 new players to this year's squad and chances the team meshes right away against visiting Belmont are slim and none.
These teams did play last November in Nashville with the Bruins reaching the century mark in a 100-89 win and cover as the -3 point favorite.
Things should not change all that much tonight in the season opener for both schools.
Take Belmont as the road favorite to take this one straight up and against the spread.
