TOMMY BRUNSON

Both Butler and Xavier own 10 wins this season, but the difference is most of the Bulldogs damage has been done in their home gym where they have won 8 of their 10 games this season. The Bulldogs other 2 wins were at neutral sites.

This LaVall Jordan coached team has yet to break through in a true road game this season as they stand at 0-3 this year, and have lost 6 straight true road games dating back to last year.

True, the Bulldogs did nail a 3-pointer at the buzzer earlier this week to fall by just one at Seton Hall for the cover, but 6 in a row is 6 in a row any way you slice it.

The same night Butler lost a heartbreaker, Xavier was able to snap a 2-game Big East skid with a come-from-behind win at home over Georgetown, and they did so without starting point guard Quentin Goodin playing, as he sat out with a knee injury. He is listed as questionable again for today's game. Not too stressed if he can't dress, as his backup Paul Scruggs played all 40 minutes and scored 10 points with 5 rebounds and 4 assists.

Series numbers show the Musketeers having won 3 straight and 7 of the past 9 both straight up and against the spread, and I think those positive numbers will improve after this one is in the books.

Both teams average right about 73-74 points per game, so the small impost looks about right on the surface. The difference is likely to come on the boards where the X-Men out-rebounded the strong boarding Hoyas by 5, and they currently average 4 boards per game more than today's conference invader.

Until Butler gets off the schneid on the road, I will play against them.

Take Xavier to edge Butler in this Sunday matinee.

Patriots (-) over Chargers

Conditions aside Bill Belichick does not want to get into a shoot out against Phillip Rivers. Granted Tom Brady has had the best of it but the Patriots no longer have a touchdown 'maker' with Josh Gordon gone. New England will stay conservative and control the tempo and the ball. If you are looking to take control over 'Your Man' get on Board with Chip's NFL BEST! And play this one to stay UNDER!

T.M. Selection: New Orleans Saints (FREE PLAY)

If the Bears hit that FG last weekend, then the legend of Nick Foles would likely have finally ended and Carson Wentz would be back under center as normal for the Eagles next season. But somehow the Philly managed another improbable win on the road in a difficult venue last weekend. The Eagles have had to play with a “do or die” mentality for well over a month now and in my opinion, I think they finally run out of gas here. The Saints were one of the best all year and QB Drew Brees once again put up spectacular numbers. With a week off to re-focus, New Orleans is primed for a run at the Super Bowl. Philadelphia is just 3-4 ATS this year vs. teams with winning records this season, while New Orleans is 5-2 ATS vs. clubs with winning records this season. I think the magic carpet ride finally comes to an end for the defending champs. Consider laying the points in what I believe will be a rout from start to finish.

T.M. Prediction: 38-13 Saints.

Sunday's FREE NFL WINNER: Philadelphia Eagles.

Game 307.

1:40 pm pst.

In the November 18th meeting, New Orleans crushed Philadelphia, 48-7. However, the Eagles were dealing with numerous injuries and were sandwiched between the Cowboys the week before, and the Giants on deck, followed by the Redskins on MNF, then the Rams and Texans. That's a sandwich you can't get at your favorite local Italian Deli. LOL New Orleans is a very good team, deserving of all their praise. But, giving last year's Super Bowl Champions, with LY's Super Bowl MVP at the helm, more than a TD, is a mistake. Philly comes in here winning six of their last seven SU and five of their last six ATS, including four consecutive wins and covers. The last five weeks or so, the New Orleans offense sputtered a bit, resulting in a 1-4 ATS streak. Maybe they were just tired, but they still sputtered. The Saints are a well balanced team, but have a weakness on the defensive side of the ball, against the pass, ranking 29th. Nick Foles has shocked the world before and can do it again, and keep this game close. Philadelphia is 7-2 ATS the last nine road playoff games, 4-0 ATS the last four overall playoff games, and 4-1 ATS the last five vs. the NFC. Take the Eagles. Thank you.

The NBA Comp Play is on the Toronto Raptors at 1:00 eastern. Toronto fit a big road favorite system here today that plays on rested road favorites that scored 120 or more at home vs a team like Washington that scored 110 or more and covered at home. These road teams have covered 87% since 1995. The winning team in this series is on a 17-0 spread run and the Raptors. have covered the last 4 between the two. The favorite has covered 7 of 9 in the series. Look for Toronto to take this one..

Sunday NFL Free play. My selection is on New England minus the points over Los Angeles at 1:05 pm et on Sunday.

We missed the mark going against the Chargers in Baltimore last Sunday as Los Angeles came up with a tremendous gameplan in a revenge spot against the Ravens. I don’t believe they’ll be so fortunate this Sunday, however, as they stay on the road for a third consecutive week to face the well-rested New England Patriots. The bye week was huge for a Pats squad in a bit of a state of flux after losing WR Josh Gordon late in the season. There’s no question, New England hasn’t looked like the same well-oiled machine we’ve become accustomed to seeing this season, leading to a lot of folks actually picking the Chargers to stage the upset here. I don’t see it. I’m confident in Bill Bellichick’s ability to push the right buttons and install enough wrinkles in the gameplan to take advantage of what has to be a weary Chargers squad, playing on the east coast for the second consecutive week. Last week I noted that the Chargers are missing a number of key cogs on defense but they were able to minimize the impact of that by employing a defensive back-heavy personnel scheme against the Ravens run-first (and essentially run-only) offense. Here, the Pats will be better-equipped to mix things up and force the Chargers to play a more traditional defensive scheme, and I believe it will be to L.A.’s detriment. This should be an entertaining game all the way, but I’ll lay the relatively short number with New England in Foxborough.

LARRY NESS

USC vs. Oregon
Oregon-5 -104

My 1* Free Play is on Oregon.

Oregon is in desperation mode here as it looks to put the foot on the gas until the end of the season. After starting the campaign with high hopes, the Ducks are now worried that they may not even make the NCAA Tournament.

Oregon hasn’t started Pac 12 play with an 0-3 record in eight years and I don’t think it will here either.

USC is 2-1 in league play after a disheartening 79-74 OT loss at Oregon State last time out. Bennie Boatwright was a bright spot in the losing cause with 37 points.

The Trojans have lost both their true road games in OT and they’re just 1-5 in road and neutral site games this season.

The Ducks lost 7 foot 2 freshman Bol Bol to injury and since then they’ve struggled to find themselves. But I think they’ll turn things around here. They almost turned the corner last time out in an 87-84 OT defeat to UCLA. Louis King led the way in the loss with 22 points, while Victor Bailey added 20.

I’ll point out as well that USC is 0-5 ATS as an underdog this year, while Oregon is 4-1 ATS in its last five after a close loss by three points or less.

I’m laying the points on the hungry home side.

Good luck…Larry

Since these teams did play back on November 18th, I would be remiss not to mention that meeting.

At that point in the season, the Eagles were just 4-5 and quarterbacked by the now injured Carson Wentz. The Saints were in the midst of 8 wins in a row, and their 48-7 ass-kicking wound up adding to what would become a 10 game winning streak before they came back down to earth with that Monday night loss in Dallas.

The game actually landed Under the total of 56 1/2 points due to the fact Philly could muster just one touchdown.

The total today is nearly a touchdown lower, and even though the Eagles just flexed their defensive chops in a 16-15 Under on Wild Card Sunday, I have a feeling that today's indoor meeting is going to see some points scored.

Since taking over for the injured Carson Wentz, Nick Foles and the Eagles offense have posted a 25.5 points per game average in reeling off 4 wins in a row to get to this Divisional Playoff Round.

The Saints juggernaut that saw them post 30 points or more in 9 of their first 11 games - Eagles game included - did see them slow to just one of their final 4 games with 30 points or more, but let's also keep in mind that the last game of the regular season was a meaningless affair in which Sean Payton rested a majority of his starters.

With nearly 2 full weeks to heal their bodies, and nearly as long to install a game plan, expect the Saints to reach that 30 points or more plateau in this home game.

Foles and the Birds will have to keep pace if they want to continue in their quest to repeat as champs, so look for the points to add up to an Over in this NFC meeting in New Orleans.

RAY CHADWICK

Who knew all it took was for the Bruins to say goodbye to Steve Alford and they would start to find their potential!?!?

UCLA is now coached by Murry Bartow for the time being, and he has let his team push the pace instead of playing a half-court game, and the results are hard to deny, as the Bruins win on Thursday night in overtime at Oregon - down 39-32 at the half! - moves their win and cover streak to 3 in a row in Pacific 12 play.

They have recorded those wins by scoring 92, 98 and 87 points, as they have pushed their season average to a high-octane 79.4 points per game. They are also doing a good job cleaning the glass, as the Uclans have pulled down 40.3 caroms per contest as well.

Let's compare that to the Beavers who are averaging 73.9 points per game and 35.9 rebounds per game.

Oregon State is also off an overtime conference win on Thursday night over USC, as the Beavers have won and covered 3 in a row, and 4 of their last 5 overall.

Series numbers show UCLA as the straight up winner in 6 of their last 9 meetings, and the underdog sporting an 8-2 against the spread mark the last 10 times these conference rivals have met.

With the Bruins pushing the pace, and prized 6'11" freshman Moses Brown coming off a double-double against the Ducks, as he was one of four starters netting in double-figures, my belief is the high-scoring (of late) Bruins will have a little too much for Oregon State tonight in the last game on the Sunday board.

Take UCLA plus any points available.

Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach NHL Game #61 Sunday Free Pick Nashville Predators Money Line (-) @ Carolina Hurricanes @ 12:35 ET - The Hurricanes have been hot but there is a lot to like about the Predators in this one. Nashville has been swept by Carolina each of the past two seasons so there is extra motivation here. Also, the Preds are hungry as they are coming off a loss. Keep in mind, the Predators entered that game having won 5 of their 6 prior games and their play has certainly improved as they've gotten healthier. As for the Hurricanes, they have been playing well but still have lost 61 of their last 101 games (including 10 of 17 this season) when facing a team with a winning record. The Predators have won 14 of their 20 games against non-conference foes this season. Grab the value with the Preds as a small road fave in this one. Free Pick NASHVILLE

76ers vs. Knicks
76ers-6½

Take the Philadelphia 76ers minus the points versus the New York Knicks. Philadelphia (27-16) has lost their last two games after their 123-121 upset loss to Atlanta on Friday as a 10.5-point favorite. The 76ers have bounced-back to cover the point spread in 4 of their last 5 games after a straight-up loss. Philly has also covered the point spread in 5 of the rest 6 games after a point spread victory. New York (10-32) has lost three straight games after their 121-106 loss to Indiana on Friday. The Knicks are likely to fold in this game as they have failed to cover the point spread in 4 straight games after a double-digit loss at home. New York has also failed to cover the point spread in 7 straight games at home. Lay the points with Philadelphia. Best of luck — Frank

CHRIS JORDAN

My free play for Sunday is on ice, with the Vancouver Canucks against the Florida Panthers.

Both teams come in mired in losing streaks, but the Canucks are in beetter position to halt theirs, more so than Florida, which has lost five in a row.

The Panthers have two games left on their five-game tour that has taken them from Pittsburgh, to Edmonton, to Calgary and Vancouver. They'll conclude their tour in Montreal on Tuesday.

During their five-game losing streak, the Panthers have been outscored 21-13. Granted, four of the losses were by identical final scores of 4-3, and they do hustle, they're going to be tired today. This will be their sixth game in 11 days, and it's their sixth road game since New Year's Eve.

Vancouver has lost three straight, yes, but two of them was at the end of a six-game road trip, and then after four days off and a little rust, the Canucks lost a tough one at home to Arizona. That won't happen here, as the Panthers are the right opponent after a couple more days off to prepare.

Play the Canucks.

The Portland Trail Blazers have won four straight.

Time for a letdown.

My free winner is on the Denver Nuggets, the Western Conference's top team.

The Nuggets have won 11 of their last 15, and 11 straight at home.

Denver is 17-3 at Pepsi Center this season and is an impressive 18-6 overall since Nov. 19.

And when you see the Trail Blazers are 8-10 on the road this season, and are nursing a four-game losing streak to Denver dating back to last season, the first sentence in this analysis is irrelevant.

Short and sweet, Denver's defense and momentum will be too much for the Blazers. Lay the home chalk.

My free play for Sunday night is the Los Angeles Lakers laying chalk to the Cleveland Cavaliers at Staples Center. LeBron James will welcome his hometown team to his new hometown, and there won't be too many pleasantries exchanged. It's all about business, as James is in street clothes right now, but also has the Lakers eyeing a berth into the postseason.

Still injured from Christmas Day, James will miss his 11th consecutive game today. No worries, the Lakers are superior to the Cavaliers without him. And the way the young guns in purple and gold have responded to their elder statesman teammate, they'll be looking to deliver the win in his honor. I know Los Angeles is just 3-7 without him, but one of those wins game against Golden State, while they've had a relatively difficult slate.

This game shouldn't be touch.

Cleveland, 8-35 without James this season, is mired in a 12-game losing streak. The Cavaliers' point differential of minus-11 is worst among all 30 teams. And while they're allowing 113.7 points per game, six games into 2019 they've allowed a 128.5 per game.

If there were ever a time the Lakers needed a win, it's now. If there were ever the right opponent to arrive on a Sunday night at Staples Center - which is like a Friday at any other arena in the NBA - it is the Cavaliers.

Lay the number.

THE PREZ

Event: (833) Butler at (834) Xavier
Sport/League: CBB
Date/Time: January 13, 2019 12PM EST
Play: Total Under 140.0 (-108)

College Basketball Preview and Free Pick: Xavier vs Butler

This Big East encounter tips off at high noon in Cincinnati, Ohio at the Cintas Center. The Musketeers host the Bulldogs with the scheduled tip at 12:00 p.m. ET. College Basketball Preview and Free Pick: Xavier vs Butler.

Xavier has qualified for the NCAA Championship Tournament in 16 of the last 18 seasons. And after a slow start (1-3 in conference play) come off a hard-fought 81-75 victory over Georgetown. Like Xavier, Butler is no stranger to success and being a participant in the Big Dance. The Bulldogs have qualified for 10 NCAA tournaments in the previous 12 seasons. Butler is in the midst of a three-game stretch in which they are the visitor in the rough and tumble Big East and come off a Wednesday's 76-75 defeat at Seton Hall.

The Bulldogs lost by 12 points at Saint Louis on the first of December and most recently were pounded by 34 at Florida. In somewhat of a historical aberration this is not a good perimeter shooting Butler team. The 'Dogs are now relying on a new rotation that includes sophomore Joey Brunk (9.2 points, 4.8 boards) who has two starts under his belt. As well, underclassman Kamar Baldwin (16.9 points/3.9 assists).

The Musketeers have also make some changes to their rotations. Coach Travis Steele is now playing his pair of quality bigs as a pair in the first rotation. Zach Hankins and Tyrique Jones combined for 42 points and 20 rebounds. Xavier's leader, point guard Quentin Goodin, who ranks second in the Big East in assists (5.4) and sixth in steals (1.6), missed the team's last game with a knee sprain but is expected to be active for today's game.

Butler's rotational changes was a choice that coach Lavall Jordan make to spark a lazy offense. But the less than subtle change doesn't change the fact that this Bulldogs squad has offensive outputs of just 43 52 points this season, at Florida and St Louis, respectively.

Free Pick is a play Under the Total
