Appalachian State has been pretty good for me this season. They are only 5-10, but those wins have come at home where they have not lost a contest yet this season. The Mountaineers have tested themselves big time out of conference playing at St. Louis, Georgetown, South Florida, East Carolina and Alabama as well as neutral court games against Ball State, Wichita State and Purdue. Ronshad Shabazz and Justin Forrest are a very good duo with Isaac Johnson being a solid third option. Texas Arlington lost a ton of talent and is now 4-11 this season. Their wins came at Cal Poly and at home vs. UC Davis, Northern Iowa and Texas-Tyler. This team has six road double digit losses and have covered just six contests overall. The Mavericks aren't that deep and don't have a ton of options on offense. I think the home team wins this one.

Boston is playing well, but I'll take a price with the Capitals. Washington has won two in a row and has owned the Bruins beating them 13 straight times, including 7-0 this season. The Capitals are 6-0 in their last six games in Boston. The Capitals have fared much better versus Eastern Conference opponents going 15-1 in the past 16 games. They have won eight consecutive road games against Eastern Conference foes. Washington should get back center Nicklas Backstrom, too. He missed the Capitals' last game due to illness but practiced on Wednesday.

The New York Islanders have dominated the Battle of New York in recent seasons winning 12 of the last 14 matchups.
The Rangers did win the last meeting to end an eight-game losing streak against the Islanders, a shutout triumph at Madison Square Garden on Nov 21, but that should just have the visitors even more motivated here in the opener of a home-and-home series. The Metro Division foes will wrap up the home-and-home Saturday afternoon, when the Islanders host the Rangers at Barclays Center.
The Isles are without a doubt the hotter of the two sides and had won six in a row before losing against Carolina last time out. They're 9-2 over their last 11 games while the Rangers are losers of four straight and have been outscored 22-5 through that four-game stretch
Rangers are 1-6 in their last seven home games. Islanders are 4-0 in their last four road games.

My free play for tonight is on Rice, as I'm taking a shot with a sizable underdog tonight, when the Owls invade San Antonio to take on the Roadrunners. I don't know why I'm scared for UTSA, but something tells me the oddsmakers have this wrong.
Rice's scoring defense has been sketchy this season, I get it, as it allows 80.8 points per game, but that's improved over its last five games, while its offense is scoring 75.8 points in that same span.
The Owls come in having won two straight, and looking to remain relevant in the conference standings. And what's actually amazed me is Rice was projected by some to finish last in the Conference USA standings, but sit 2-1 in league play and 7-9 overall. I don't know if the Owls will contend for the regular-season, but right now with momentum, they're putting their best foot forward.
If there is a good game to play them as a live underdog, this is one, because San Antonio - one of the preseason favorites - will overlook the Owls.
Take the road pup here, and take a shot.

Thursday free play is underdog UCLA plus the points playing at Oregon.
The Ducks have some injuries that have slowed them down, as big man Bol Bol is a big loss, as he had foot surgery and is out for the remainder of the season.
Oregon is also down forward Kenny Wooten who has broken jaw and will be sidelined until February.
OU comes into this home game off a loss to in-state rival Oregon State at home, as Dana Altman's team has dropped 2 of their last 3 straight up and against the spread.
UCLA has caught a little updraft, as they relieved Steve Alford of his head coaching duties, and have gone 2-0 both straight up and against the spread with Murray Bartow now installed as the head coach.
The Bruins offense has scored 92 and 98 points in wins over Stanford and Cal, and they have also won 2 of the last 3 series meetings versus Oregon as they get set to take the court in Eugene tonight.
The faster tempo that Bartow has installed with the Uclans seems to be the tonic at this moment for what ailed them.
With Oregon a little depth-shy, look for the quicker tempo UCLA employs to strike gold for a third straight contest.

For Thursday, go with Nebraska back (finally!) at home in their Big 10 game against visiting Penn State.
The Cornhuskers are off back-to-back conference road losses at Maryland and at Iowa. The former a nail-biter in College Park, the later a blowout in Iowa City.
In Lincoln, the Huskers are rolling a perfect 8-0 straight up, and they have gone 6-0-1 against the spread in their lined games. For the season, Nebraska is a money-making 10-3-1 against the spread.
As for Penn State, they are now 0-4 in conference play after getting blown out at home against Wisconsin. The Nittany Lions played that game without their head coach Patrick Chambers who was suspended for a game for putting his hands on player Myles Dread.
Suffice to say, things in Happy Valley do not appear to be too "happy"!
The Nittany Lions are just 1-6-1 against the spread away from home, and a money-burning 4-10-1 overall in their lined games.
Nebraska won the last meeting at home over Penn State by a dozen, and they are averaging a whopping 12 points per game more than State, while allowing roughly 4 points per game less.
This one is going to get ugly.

OKC looks to end a 2-game losing streak when they head to San Antonio for this Thursday night TNT showdown.
The Thunder lost over the weekend to Washington in ugly fashion, then followed that home loss up on Tuesday night with another home loss by a basket to Minnesota!

Last night notwithstanding, the Spurs have been really putting it all together after starting off the year slowly.
Coach Pop's team did lose in Memphis last night, but have still won 13 of their last 17, including 5 of 6.
Against the spread things are even better, as San Antone has covered 7 of 8, and 14 of those 17 games contested.
This is the first meeting of the season between the teams, as series numbers show San Antonio with wins in 3 of their last 5, and 4 of the last 7. They have also covered in 5 of the past 7 series meetings.
The Spurs are 17-5 straight up at home this year, and 16-6 against the spread in those home games. They have been able to rev up their offense, as they have scored at least 108 points or better in each of their last 5 prior to last night's loss, and in 16 of their last 20 games overall. They have also been able to to hold 6 of their last 9 opponents to 98 points or less on their home court.
Consistent offense, and solid defense is a good mix for both winning games, and for covering games.
Mark me down for a play on the Spurs tonight.

Love the value here with Edmonton as a small home favorite against the Panthers. Edmonton hasn't played as well as they would have hoped for, but are still within striking distance and should be primed for a big showing in their first game back home after a 4-game road trip. It will be their first home game of 2019.
While wins have been tough to come by for Edmonton, they did take 2 of 4 on their road trip and are catching Florida at the perfect time. The Panthers have lost 3 straight and things got so bad in their last game at Pittsburgh, head coach Bob Boughner had to pull guys for a lack of effort. Florida has allowed the first goal in 7 straight games and simply aren't a team to be trusted in the slightest on the road.
It's also worth noting that Edmonton will be out for revenge from a 4-1 loss at Florida back in November, as this sets the Oilers up in a very profitable system. Favorites revenging a road loss of 2 or more goals and are off a road loss to a division rival are a dominant 78-28 (74%) against the money line over the last 5 seasons. Take Edmonton!

I'll take my chances here with Sacramento getting back on track at home against the Pistons. The Kings come in having lost 5 of their last 6. A bad stretch, but it could have went a lot different. The first 4 losses came by 7 points or less including hard-fought home losses to the likes of the Blazers, Nuggets and Warriors.
They got back on track with a 16-point win at home over Orlando then inexplicably laid an egg in the 2nd half of a 115-111 loss at Phoenix. A game in which they led by 21 points and also finished with a ridiculous 25 turnovers. I just like the overall product that I have seen from the Kings and there's not much to like with the Pistons.
Detroit has won a grand total of 5 games since Dec. 1st. They are 1-6 in their last 7 and will be playing in the 2nd leg of a back-to-back road set. I also think this isn't a game they will be all that interested in. While Blake Griffin returned tot he Staples Center for the first time as an opponent, that was against the Lakers. He will return and face his former team on Sunday. My bet is they are looking ahead and won't show up tonight. Give me the Kings -5!

The Oregon State Beavers are a veteran bunch full of coach’s sons. Tres Tinkle (20.5 PPG, 8.6 RPG, 4.2 APG is the son of head coach Wayne Tinkle and is arguably the best player in the Pac-12. Senior guard Stephen Thompson Jr. (14.2 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 3.5 APG) and sophomore Ethan Thompson (12.3 PPG, 5.6 RPG) are the sons of assistant coach Stephen Thompson.
This formidable trio has led the Beavers to a 9-4 start this season. Their four losses have all come by 6 points or fewer, so they have been in every game and are close to being 13-0. Oregon State will be playing with triple-revenge after losing all three meetings with the Trojans last season, including their loss in the Pac-12 Tournament. It’s safe to say the Beavers will be highly motivated for a victory tonight. Oregon State is 7-0 ATS in its last seven home games after allowing 40% shooting or less in three consecutive games coming in. The Beavers are off to a great start in the PAC12, and they host a USC Trojans team that hasn't been all that impressive so far. The Trojans are winless on the road, and they are just 7-8 ATS while going 9-6 overall. USC has won six straight against Oregon State over the last two seasons, and that might be what has kept this line so low. The Beavers have allowed just 65.3 points per game on 39.8 percent shooting while going 5-1 at home. Tres Tinkle is probably the best player in the PAC12, one of just two players in the conference averaging over 20 points per game. The home team has covered in seven of the last eight head to head meetings, and that's likely to be the case here in Oregon tonight.
