Books roll in Week 5

Nevada sports books scooped up all the chips in NFL Week 5 action with bettors failing in the most bet games of the week. A couple of the worst rated teams in the league bounced back with straight up wins as underdogs, much to the dismay of casual bettors who fared very well the previous weekend.
"The Bills win was huge for us," said MGM Resorts sports book hub manager Jeff Stoneback."We had some large money that pushed us from Titans -3.5 to -6 and we also had some large Titans money-line play as well."
The Bills had been bet against all week with the Titans getting as high as -6.5 at the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook, but the Bills 13-12 win was their second win of the season and paid +255 on the money-line at the South Point.
"The Bills wins and the Browns win was half of our day," Stoneback said. " We had large money-line plays on the Ravens as well."
For the past two seasons, the Browns won just one game and went 8-24 against the spread (25%). After five games this season, they're 2-2-1 with three of the games going into overtime. They're now 4-1 ATS and Sunday's 12-9 home win against the Ravens paid +155 on the money-line at the SuperBook.
"The Browns and Seahawks were the biggest games for us and they both get there," said Station Casinos sports book director Jason McCormick. "The Jets and Bills were also nice helpers. It was a solid weekend and the fight was great too."
Conor McGregor losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov Saturday night was a good decision for the house, but not as good as the Rams not covering at Seattle. It was collectively the biggest decision of the day for the majority of books, particularly the neighborhood local books. The Rams were bet from seven-point road favorites at Seattle up to -7.5 and found themselves in a battle, eventually winning 33-31.
"Parlays were great for us, straight bets so-so," said Atlantis Reno sports book director Marc Nelson. "The Rams not covering was the best game by far. The Chiefs was the worst and sharp money on the Lions took a chunk away."
Kansas City's 30-14 home win against the Jaguars (+3) elevated them to a perfect 5-0 ATS mark, the only unblemished spread record in the NFL. That's some pretty impressive stuff and Sunday's victory in the rain against the best defense in the league might have been their best moment. Chiefs-Rams Super Bowl?
The Packersmissed five field goals in a 31-23 loss at Detroit. Despite the public hammering the Packers all week in their parlays, larger money moved the Lions from a 1.5-point dog to a 1.5-point favorite.
The Steelers (-3) handed the Falcons their fourth loss witha 41-17 beat down and the Panthers (-6.5) won 33-31 over the Giants, but the New York offense showed up for once and they finally scored 30 points.
Perhaps the best news for the sports books outside of winning was that Arizona showed up. The Cardinals are the lowest rated team in the NFL and it's bad for business if they don't play well and everyone keeps betting them to be bad. The Cardinals won their first game of the season, 28-18, at San Francisco.
After five weeks of action, it's hard to tell who the worst team in the league is. There isn't a team we can simply bet against each week and send it in as a winner. Parity is great for the sports boiok business.
