Ohio State vs. Wisconsin
Ohio State+1½ -105

Ohio State/Wisconsin 1:00: OSU had a miserable January but now picking up their game. Buckeyes posted three straight impressive wins including two on the road during their 3-0 ATS run. They're seeking to avenge the January 3rd loss at home. OSU is a momentum team thriving off wins with a 10-3 ATS mark following a SU win and 9-2 ATS off an ATS win. OSU has turned in a profitable season at 13-9 ATS and I'm going to look for the Buckeyes, which are playing lights out defense (held last 3 opponents below 60 points) to choke out the offensively challenged Badgers (65.6 PPG ranked 315th nationally). OSU the call.

Cincinnati vs. Connecticut
10* FREE NCAAB PICK (Connecticut +2)

I'll take my chances here with the Huskies as a 2-point home dog against the Bearcats. These two have very different records in AAC play with Cincinnati sitting at 8-2 and UConn a mere 3-6, which I believe is leading to the value.

The Huskies are coming off their best game in months, as they went on the road and took down a red-hot Tulsa team 72-56. Golden Hurricane had won 6 straight and UConn had not won a conference road game prior to that. Thing is the Huskies have been showing signs of a breakout performance. While they were just 1-5 in their previous 6, all 5 losses had come by 7-points or less and all 5 were against quality opponents.

UConn is also 9-3 at home with their only two losses at home in conference play coming in OT. I don't think there's any question they will be motivated here. While Cincinnati has won 5 straight, I don't love this spot. Bearcats are off a grueling 80-79 win at Wichita State on Thursday and have had their struggles on the road. With just 2 days off from that big win over the Shockers, I think there's a really good chance Cincinnati comes out flat in this one. Give me UConn +2!

Washington vs. Washington State
Washington State+3

This is a Free play Washington State.

The Huskies come into Pullman as 3.5 point favorites, despite the fact that they have lost seven of their last eight overall. They sit in last place in the PAC12, and they have lost four of five road games. The Cougars are 10-3 at home, and they have been playing well lately. Their last home game was a loss to Arizona, but they had won four straight at home prior to that. Wins came against #8 ranked Oregon, UCLA and Arizona State, who all sit in the top half of the PAC12 standings. Washington State has covered the spread in four of it's last five as a home underdog. The Huskies are 1-5 ATS in their last six games as a road favorite.

Take WSU.

My complimentary winner is on Penn laying the road chalk to Cornell. Though this has always been a strange conference to deal with, and you have to be wary in playing road favorites, I believe we're safe in this one.

Penn, which has one of the best scoring offenses in the Ivy League, is in after beating Dartmouth by eight at home last weekend, and off a win yesterday at Columbia. The Quakers' one downfall is their scoring defense, and though Cornell provides a stiffer challenge than Columbia, I still like my chances.

The analytics on Cornell are bad, as they rank in the bottom half of the Ivy League in a bevy of statistical categories. For the most part, like Columbia, this is a bad team and it's no wonder it is 5-13 overall and 2-3 in league play.

Penn has a good core of seniors, including AJ Brodeur, Devon Goodman and Ryan Betley. Add in freshman Jordan Dingle, and the quartet have been a consistent offensive force, combining to account for 75 percent of the team's scoring this year, and 98 percent of all Quakers points over the team's last five games coming into the weekend

Where they hurt you, though, is at the other end. The Quakers allow just 64.8 points per game in conference play, showing their tough non-conference slate is paying off. They allowed 75.5 per game outside of Ivy League play.

Prior to last season's series split, Penn had won 11 in a row over Cornell. Lay the road chalk in this one, as Penn sweeps the weekend trip to the Empire State.

NBA freebie for Sunday on the visiting Boston Celtics over the host Oklahoma City Thunder.

How about the job Billy Donovan has done with the "rebuilding" OKC Thunder?!?!

Oklahoma City comes into this home game with a 9-1 straight up mark over their last 10 games and they are currently riding a 4 game win streak as they get set to host the Celtics.

Boston has been just as hot though, as the C's head to OKC riding a 6 game winning streak and they too have won 9 of their past 10 games straight up.

Who rates the nod today?

With Oklahoma City having failed their last 3 games against the spread at home and 5 of their last 7 leading into today matinee, have to give the visitors the nod this afternoon. Boston did win and cover both series meetings a season ago versus OKC and they are now 7-2 against the spread the last 9 times the teams have played one another with 4 straight wins and covers on their ledger.

True, Boston's Jaylen Brown and Gordon Hayward both sat out of Friday's latest victory, but that has been Boston's M.O. all season long, as they have dealt with injuries and yet continue to find ways to win games.

In this battle of hot versus hot, I am going with Boston to be the team that stays hot.

C's your freebie for Sunday.

Sunday comp play in the NBA on Philly at home over Chicago.

Getting back on their home court looks like exactly what Philadelphia needed, as they returned home after a gruesome 4 game road trip that saw the Sixers lose all 4 by double-digits. They returned home on Friday and beat back the surging Memphis Grizzlies, 119-107 in a game that really was not as close as the final score would indicate.

That home win by Philadelphia improves their mark to 23-2 on their home hardwood and they will be facing a Chicago team that is not exactly playing competitive basketball at this writing. The Bulls head to the City of Brotherly Love riding a 4 game losing streak and they have failed the pointspread in each of their last 5 games.

The Bulls have not exactly been blessed with good health, as they come into this game with Otto Porter Jr., Kris Dunn, Wendell Carter Jr., Lauri Markkanen all injured and now Zach Lavine also joins the injury list! This is a team that may need me to don a road jersey and suit up.

For the year, Chicago is just 8-18 straight up on the road this year and just 12-13-1 against the spread away from the Windy City.

Philadelphia did win the first meeting between the teams this season on January 19th, 100-89 as the -9 point home favorite. That win and cover puts the 76ers on a 3 game series winning streak and they are 6-1 overall the past 7 meetings with a 5-2 spread mark during their current domination.

Philly has been underachieving for a while now. That win over a good Memphis team puts them back on the right track and will keep them on track against this Chicago team on Sunday. Yes, Joel Embiid did leave Friday's win over the Grizzlies and could well be sitting this one out, but Chicago's injury situation is far worse!

Lay it with the Sixers.

Event: (835) Valparaiso at (836) Loyola Chicago
Sport/League: CBB
Date/Time: February 9, 2020 4PM EST
Play: Loyola Chicago -8.5 (-108)

LOYOLA-CHICAGO 78 - Valparaiso 63—With MVC contender LCU in a chippy mood following humiliating 68-39 midweek blowout out loss at Indiana State, look for the prideful, defensively-solid Ramblers (60.7 ppg) to vent plenty of frustration on a middling Valpo squad, which is a point away from 3 straight spread losses on the conference trail. Look for a big offensive display from Loyola’s DD-scoring 6-6 jr. G Tate Hall, who had a season-low 4 points vs. the Sycamores, while normally good-shooting Ramblers (49.6% FGs; 5th nationally) regain their collective “shooting eye” after a miserable 33.3% FGs in that torching in Terre Haute. Keep in mind Porter Moser’s Loyola has won all six meetings (4-2 vs. spread) since the Crusaders joined the MVC in 2017-18!

Butler vs. Marquette
1* NCAAB - Free Pick on Marquette -3

The Golden Eagles are definitely worth a look as a small home favorite against Butler. Any time you can lay this short a number with Marquette at home it's hard to pass up. Golden Eagles are 11-1 at home this season with their only loss at the Fiserv Forum coming in OT.

Marquette comes into this one having won 5 of their last 6 and the lone loss during this stretch was a 85-89 OT loss at Butler in a game they let slip away. Playing with that revenge only adds more value to the Golden Eagles. Not to mention they have had plenty of time to prepare having not played since last Saturday.

Another thing here is that this is a really tough spot for Butler, who is coming off an emotionally draining win at home over Villanova on Wednesday, which they won with a 3-pointer at the buzzer. That was a big win, but overall the Bulldogs have been trending in the wrong direction, as they are just 3-4 since starting the year 15-1.

Butler is a mere 1-5-1 ATS last 7 games vs a team with a winning record, 8-18 ATS last 26 road games after playing a game at home, 2-10 ATS last 12 on the road after a game with a combined score of 155 or more and 0-6 ATS last 6 on the road after a game where they shot 55% or better from the field.

Golden Eagles are 8-1 ATS last 9 off a conference home win, 5-1 ATS last 6 vs a team that's won more than 60% of their games and 8-3 ATS last 11 as a home favorite. Take Marquette!

For Sunday’s freebie, it’s back to the college hardwood as we’ll lay the big points with Rutgers against Northwestern.

I understand that as horrific as the Wildcats have been on the road this year (1-6), they’ve been covering some double-digit pointspreads in recent weeks (getting the money as a 12-point dog at Minnesota, a 13½-point dog at Indiana and a 12-point dog at Illinois). But I also know they got absolutely walloped in their last road game, falling 79-50 at Michigan State as a 17½-point pup (I know this because I scored a premium-play winner on Michigan State that night).

But as much as this is a play against Northwestern (which is 6-15 overall and 1-10 in the Big Ten), it’s a play on Rutgers (16-7, 7-5). The Scarlet Knights, who have had their own road struggles, are coming off consecutive tough losses at Michigan (69-63) and Maryland (56-51). It’s just the second time all year Rutgers has dropped consecutive games, so you know the Knights will enter this contest hungry for a convincing win—especially now that they’re back home where they’re undefeated this season.

In fact, the Scarlet Knights (15-0) join Maryland (13-0) as the last two teams in the 14-team Big Ten that’s still undefeated on its home floor. More importantly, since starting the season 1-3-1 ATS, Rutgers has been a cash machine, going 14-3 ATS overall, including 9-1 ATS at home.

This is one of those name-the-score type of games for the Scarlet Knights, who will get back on track with a feel-good 20-plus-point win against an opponent that just wants this miserable season to end.

Cincinnati vs. Connecticut
Jack’s Free Pick Sunday: Connecticut +1.5

The UConn Huskies have been a lot more impressive than their recent 2-5 SU run in their last seven games would indicate. And I think they are being undervalued because they have lost so many close games here of late.

The two wins came by 15 points over Temple at home and by 16 over Tulsa on the road, which were both impressive. And the losses have come by 3 at home to Wichita State, by 6 at Villanova, by 4 at Houston, by 4 at home to Tulsa and by 7 at Memphis. They had a chance to win all seven games.

Now the Huskies want revenge from a 51-67 road loss at Cincinnati back on January 1st. They face a Bearcats team that I believe is getting too much respect from oddsmakers after winning five straight games coming in, including the last two by a combined 3 points. Their luck runs out here against the Huskies today.

UConn is 10-1 ATS in its last 11 home games after having won two of its last three games coming in. The Huskies are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 home games off a win by 10 points or more. The Bearcats are 6-17 ATS in their last 23 games off a win. Cincinnati is 4-10 ATS in its last 14 road games. The Huskies are 15-7-2 ATS in their last 24 home games. The home team is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings. Bet Connecticut Sunday.
