Duke won its opener by hoop over Kansas in NYC, then beat couple of stiffs by 34-51 points; Blue Devils have forced turnovers 28.3% of time so far (#13)- they’re #324 experience team that starts two frosh and a soph. Duke lost four starters from LY’s 32-6 that went 14-4 in ACC and lost in Elite 8. Unsure of injured PG Jones’ status. Georgia State turned ball over 19 times in its 84-80 loss at Charleston; they led by 5 with 4:59 left. Panthers lost three starters and their coach from LY’s 24-10 team that went 13-5 in Sun Belt and made NCAA’s.

Xavier allowed only 59.3 ppg in winning its first three games, beating Missouri by 5 in OT Tuesday, after that trailed by 5 with 4:01 left. Musketeers are forcing turnovers 22.3% of time; opponents have made only 23.1% on arc against them. Xavier starts three juniors, two seniors, have four starters back from LY’s 19-16 team that went 9-9 in Big East. Missouri State allowed 55.3 ppg in its 2-1 start, all home games; they’ve turned ball over 22.1% of time. Bears start four seniors, one junior, have two starters back from LY’s 16-16 team that went 10-8 in Valley.

Notre Dame lost its opener by 11 at North Carolina, then beat couple of stiffs, by 35-29 points; Irish have forced turnovers 22.8% of time, are shooting 58.7% inside arc- they start four seniors, are listed as experience team #55, with all five starters back from LY’s injury-riddled 14-19 team that went 3-15 in ACC. Marshall is coached by Mike D’Antoni’s brother; they like to play fast, starting four juniors, with three starters back from LY’s 23-14 team that went 11-7 n C-USA and won the postseason CIT. Marshall split its first two games, losing by 26 at home to Toledo.

Ole Miss beat couple of stiffs by 28-13 points to open season, forcing turnovers 29.1% of time (#9); Rebels start two sophs, two juniors (experience team #270), have three starters back from LY’s 20-13 team that went 10-6 in SEC and made NCAAs. Western Michigan won its first three games including a triple OT win at Milwaukee (trailed by 5 with 0:32 left); Broncos start two frosh, two juniors (experience team #305), have three starters back from LY’s 8-24 team that went 2-16 in MAC.

West Virginia beat Pitt last two years, by 9-10 points, in first two series meetings since ’12; Mountaineers won their opener last Friday 94-84 over Akron, going 31-40 on line (Zips were 26-31). WVa starts three sophs and a frosh (experience team #254), have four starters back from LY’s 15-21 team that went 4-14 in Big X. Pitt beat Florida State at home, then lost to Nicholls State; Panthers start three sophs, two juniors (experience team #310), basically play six guys, have four starters back from LY’s 14-17 team that went 7-11 in Southland.

Home side won last three Eastern Kentucky-Western Kentucky games; Hilltoppers lost 78-69 in last visit here, three years ago- teams didn’t meet LY. WKU already beat couple of OVC teams by 12-22 points to start season; they’ve made 44.4% of their 3’s, 60.6% of 2’s, have #6 eFG% in country. WKU start two juniors, two seniors (experience team #96), have four starters back from LY’s 20-13 team that went 11-7 in C-USA. EKU beat Chattanooga by 11, lost by 42 at Kentucky; Colonels start three sophs and a junior (experience team #142).

South Alabama lost tough 70-69 home game to Auburn Tuesday, rallying back from down 14 to lead in last minute; Jaguars start five seniors, are #1 experience team in country. USA has three starters back from LY’s 17-17 team that went 8-10 in Sun Belt. Chattanooga was 1-16 on arc in its 73-54 loss at South Alabama LY; Mocs won two of first three games this year, winning 74-68 at Troy Tuesday after they trailed by 14 in 2nd half. UTC starts three juniors, one senior (experience team #122)- they took 34 3’s, only 23 2’s at Troy.

Rhode Island beat LIU by 11, then lost by 18 at Maryland to open season; Rams are shooting only 35% inside arc- they start two sophs, two seniors (#6 in country in continuity), have all five starters back from LY’s 18-15 team that went 9-9 in A-14. Alabama got upset by Penn, then beat FAU by 19 in their 1-1 start; Crimson Tide starts two frosh, one soph for new coach Oats, are #306 experience team that is playing #7 pace in country so far. Alabama took 67 2-point shots, 68 3-pointers in first two games.

Gonzaga shot 57% inside arc, whacked Texas A&M 94-71 at home LY, but Zags lost 4 starters from LY’s 33-4 team that went 17-1 in WCC and lost in Elite 8. Zags have pounded on three stiffs to start season; they’re experience team #279 and this is their first road game. Texas A&M has new coach (Buzz Williams); they allowed 60 ppg in beating couple stiffs by 14-6 points, forcing turnovers 24.3% of time (#44). Aggies start two frosh, two juniors, have three starters back from LY’s 14-18 team that went 6-12 in SEC.

Cal-Irvine split pair of road games with WCC teams that were decided by total of 7 points; Anteaters start three seniors (#138 experience team) and they are deep (bench minutes #44). Irvine has two starters back from LY’s 31-6 team that went 15-1 in Big West and won game in NCAA’s. Boise State lost its D-I opener by 31 at Oregon Saturday, then Arizona transfer Akot’s transfer waiver was denied, so he’ll sit this year out. Broncos start four seniors, one junior, they have three starters back from LY’s 13-20 team that went 7-11 in Mountain West.

Houston made 11-26 on arc, won 76-62 at BYU LY; Cougars beat a stiff by 28 in their opener Tuesday- they start three juniors, two sophs (experience team #285), lost four starters from LY’s 33-4 team that went 16-2 in AAC, then lost by 4 to Kentucky in Sweet 16. BYU won two of three home games to start their season, losing by 5 to San Diego State; Cougars start three seniors, one junior (experience team #19)- they’ve got two starters back from LY, with big man Childs still suspended. BYU is playing their 4th game, Houston only their 2nd.

Minnesota shot 59.5% inside arc in its 78-69 home win over Utah LY; Utes won their first two games TY, with a 79-74 win at rebuilding Nevada. Utah plays five frosh, three sophs and a junior (experience team #349)- there bench plays #56 minutes. Minnesota scored 59 ppg in losing its last two games, 71-62 to Oklahoma on a neutral floor, then 64-56 at Butler. Gophers start three sophs, one senior; they’ve got two starters back from LY’s 22-14 team that went 9-11 in big 14 and won a game in NCAA’s.

UNLV lost its last two games in OT; they have very little depth, playing eight guys, with 8th guy getting 7:00 or so. Rebels led by 9 at Cal with 5:12 left Tuesday, led K-State by 3 with 3:28 left, but lost both games, after beating Fort Wayne by 15 in opener. UNLV is experience team #13, but that experience has been gained all over the map. UCLA coach Cronin turned down the UNLV job before going to Westwood; Bruins allowed 63 ppg in beating couple of Big West teams by 4-16 points. UCLA starts two seniors, is experience team #280 while playing pace #337.
