The Cardinals nearly won Game 1, and handily took Game 2 against the rival Brewers on Friday night. This time, the numbers point back to a Milwaukee win, with Brandon Woodruff, who really impressed the second half of last season, getting the nod over the relatively untested Dakota Hudson. The Brewers win 61 percent of my computer simulations -- jump on Milwaukee now as the money line price continues to climb.

Based on the off-season moves each team made, the Reds looks to be playing more for 2019 than the Pirates might be. But on this day, Pittsburgh has the better lineup, especially with Trevor Williams on the mound. Pittsburgh wins well over 50 percent of my computer model simulations. Take the underdog Pirates.

My projections like the Angels' Felix Pena slightly more than Brett Anderson of the A's, but it also doesn't expect either to last long, and Oakland's bullpen gets the big nod. The A's win in 64 percent of my simulations, putting their current price as a real bargain, especially at home.

This is a classic Offense vs. Defense matchup. According to KenPom we have the most efficient offense in the country (Gonzaga) going against the most efficient defense (Texas Tech). I'd normally side with the defense here, but I don't think this is a great matchup for Tech. Gonzaga has a lot more size than the Red Raiders, and Tech's had a tendency to get foul-happy at times this season. I fear that could be the case against a bigger Gonzaga team, and the Zags are great at the free throw line. So I like them to cover here.

There's only one team in College Basketball that was top 6 in BOTH offense & defense efficiency and that is Virginia as they were #3 in both. Virginia is still not getting the respect they deserve because of LY's loss to a 16-seed and just getting by Oregon in a low scoring game 53-49. Today they face Purdue who just allowed 94 points to the Nation's #2 offense and Virginia is #3. Purdue just played 3 defenses that were ranked 36, 41 & 84. Virginia is #3 and plays a smothering defense making their opponents work for every point. Virginia just played two defenses both better than Purdue’s who is #28. Oregon was #13 and Oklahoma was #23 defensively. Virginia is 17-6 ATS after allowing 65 points or less in back to back games this year. Virginia is 16-4 ATS following a game where they fail to cover the spread. My numbers have Virginia winning by 8-10 points.

The Indians were blanked in their season opener in Minnesota, but that's not going to last. And Saturday looks like a good time to break out against Jake Odorizzi, who went 0-3 with a 7.61 ERA in five starts against Cleveland last year and wasn't particularly impressive in spring, either. The Twins managed two runs off Corey Kluber in Game 1, and Trevor Bauer won't offer much relief. He was 2-0 against the Twins last year. He's struck out 32 with four walks in spring, and while he's been giving up the long ball, the Twins don't have the lineup to take advantage, especially in the cold and dense air expected Saturday.

The Red Sox offense found its regular-season footing Friday night, which is bad news for Mariners Saturday starter Mike Leake. Leake is 1-5 all-time against Boston with a 5.30 ERA -- and that includes a surprising eight-inning, shutout effort. The other five outings were especially rough. Seattle's offense may be the real deal, but they'll face a pitcher in Eduardo Rodriguez that's held the Mariners' current lineup to .234 hitting over his career, and went 6-1 with a .213 average allowed on the road in 2018.

Last year, Miami ranked 28th against LHPs with a .228 average, and dead-last against southpaws in homers (28) and scored 26 fewer runs than any other team in baseball against them. They didn't do much in the off-season to think this year will be much better, and the opener against Kyle Freeland (1 run, 7 innings) strengthed that notion. Tyler Anderson should be good enough on Saturday, and the Rockies' lineup, which has put up six runs in both games so far, can get to the promising-but-young Pablo Lopez.

Sonny Gray had an excellent spring in his three starts, but this price against Trevor Williams is 15 cents too high. I was a little surprised that Williams wasn't the opening day starter. I'm certain he didn't want 2018 to end because he was in such a groove from July through September. He has also feasted on Reds hitters going 3-0 with a 2.22 ERA in five starts. In two of his last three starts against the Reds, he didn't allow a run. Pirates are the play.

Purdue is playing its best ball of the season right now and has won and covered its last three since losing to Minnesota in the Big Ten Tournament. The Boilermakers are 6-2 ATS in their last eight. Carsen Edwards is always going to be great. But seeing Ryan Cline step up and make the biggest shots of his career on Thursday has me believing Edwards has the proper supporting cast to propel Purdue into the Final Four. Purdue to cover.
