The Owls probably don't deserve to be in the play-in game, as they have been an NCAA Tournament-quality team all year, with a resume felled only by a relatively weak non-conference schedule. Seven of Temple's nine losses came by single figures. The Owls feature a savvy, experienced backcourt, a major asset this time of year. We've heard and seen the hype on Belmont before -- four times this decade. The Bruins annually receive a ton of mid-major sweetheart hype, and never live up to it. In fact, all four prior trips to the NCAA Tournament have ended in double-figures losses.

Byron Smith led Prairie View to a winning season for the first time in eight years. Smith is in his third year and his pressure defense and up-tempo offensive system have finally kicked in. The Panthers create turnovers and take the ball to the basket, earning a high number of free throws with the clock stopped. Fairleigh Dickinson got here by being a great shooting team. The Knights are 29th in effective field goal percentage and fifth in three-point percentage. FDU plays very little defense, ranking 295th nationally. Go Over.

The Panthers play fast on offense and pressure teams into quick shots. Fairleigh Dickinson shoots the three ball really well but if forced into quicker shots than normal, the Knights won't be as accurate. The Panthers love to drive to the basket for high-percentage shots, plus they draw a lot fouls. This could put a couple of FDU shooters in foul trouble. Last but not least, Prairie View A&M plays far better defense.

Meanwhile, the Pacers may be the NBA's stingiest team, allowing 103.9 points per game, but how motivated will they be to play defense one night after playing at Portland? My model says 229 points will be scored. Take the Over.

No doubt Belmont can shoot the rock. But ‘Temple, plus
the points on a neutral floor’ has long been attractive
to us, even when Temple is outsized. In this match-up,
they are not. The Owls are quicker and they get smart
guard play on both ends of the floor, led by a pair of
seniors, Shizz Alston and Quentin Rose. Rose is 6’8’’,
a lanky son of a gun, and is one of the few guards in
the nation who can go out on the perimeter and give
Belmont’s 6’8’’ Dylan Windler (21.8 ppg) his money’s
worth defending against him. Windler is a 43% free-throw
shooter but it’s not every night they put a 6’8’’ guard
