NBA Game Preview - San Antonio Spurs at Dallas Mavericks
The San Antonio Spurs might not be a championship contender like they have been in years past, but the team is playing some solid ball as the playoffs inch closer. San Antonio has won five consecutive games and will look to keep that momentum going next time out against the Dallas Mavericks.
The Spurs are currently in a three-way tie with the Jazz and Clippers at the bottom of the Western Conference postseason seedings. San Antonio is in great shape to make the playoffs but must avoid the Warriors in the first round to have a shot at pulling an upset.
The Spurs have struggled on the road this season so cannot take this game for granted. Dallas has been good at home so the oddsmakers will likely peg this as a competitive showdown in NBA odds.
This NBA basketball game between the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks will be held at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday, March 12th, 2019. The game will be nationally televised on TNT.
Odds Analysis
The Spurs are 38-29 on the season. They picked up an impressive win over the Bucks last time out for their fifth straight win. San Antonio is just 12-22 on the road this season, which is a surprise considering the recent history of success away from home under coach Gregg Popovich.
The Mavericks have a mark of 27-39 on the year. They are on the other end of the spectrum with five straight losses. Dallas has dropped nine of its past 10 overall and hopes to break out of this funk. The Mavericks are 21-12 at home this season so don’t count them out of this one in NBA betting lines.
Injury Report
San Antonio small forward Rudy Gay did not play on Sunday against the Bucks due to an illness. The hope is that a couple more days of rest will flush the issue out of his system, but his status should be watched closely. Gay is one of the team’s best players. He is averaging 14.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game this season.
Gay is shooting 51.2 percent from the floor and 41.4 percent from three-point range, and that type of efficiency has really helped the offense. He is also one of the team’s best defenders. In a game that could go down to the wire, Gay’s availability could be a critical component.
Key Stat
15. That’s the number of rebounds Mavericks star rookie Luka Doncic hauled down last time out in a 94-93 loss to the Rockets. Dallas has some issues rebounding the ball after the midseason trade of Deandre Jordan, and Doncic is doing what he can do help fill in.
The third overall pick in the draft is having a stellar season overall. He is averaging 21.1 points, 7.4 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game this year and is the favorite to win Rookie of the Year. There was some concerning news coming out of that Rockets loss for Doncic, as he said he heard a pop in the knee while grabbing one of the rebounds and has discomfort in the area.
If he has to sit out this game, it will have a substantial effect on the spread.

Doncic’s availability is a concern. If he cannot play or is limited, the Mavericks will not have enough firepower to hang with the Spurs, even at home. San Antonio is in a race for playoff seeding and will be the team with the greater sense of urgency.
Don’t put too much stock into the Spurs’ road woes because they are going to pick up this victory in NBA gambling.
