Featured game: Miami Heat vs. Charlotte Hornets

The Southeast showdown at Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, will see the Miami Heat (29-34; 33-30 ATS) going against the Charlotte Hornets (29-34; 29-32-2 ATS) for the third time this season. After a couple of games in October 2018, the Hornets lead the series, beating the Heat 125-113 at home and 113-112 on the road. However, the Heat is 6-2 straight up and 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight meetings with the Hornets, while Miami is 4-2 straight up and ATS in the last six head-to-head duels in Charlotte. The Hornets opened as 3-point favorites on this one with the total at 219.0 points, and the over is 5-3 in the last eight H2H matchups overall. It’s a big game for both teams that are tied at the No. 8 seed in the East.

The Heat is coming off a 114-113 home win over the Atlanta Hawks this past Monday to record its third victory over the last four outings. Still, Miami is just 5-10 straight up and 7-8 ATS in its last 15 games overall and is 1-5 straight up and 4-2 ATS in its previous six showings on the road. The Heat is 2-4 straight up and ATS in its six road meetings with the Southeast Division this season, while the over is 8-3 in their previous 11 road encounters with divisional rivals.

The Hornets are coming off a 118-108 home loss to the Portland Trail Blazers this past Sunday to record their fourth loss over the last five outings, while they are 1-3-1 ATS during that span. The Hornets are just 3-8 straight up and 3-7-1 ATS in their previous 11 contests overall, and the over is 8-3 in that stretch, while they are 1-5 straight up and ATS in their last six showings on the home court, losing four straight games at Spectrum Center. Also, the Hornets are 6-0 straight up and 5-1 ATS in their last six home meetings with the Southeast Division.

San Antonio Spurs vs. Atlanta Hawks

The San Antonio Spurs (36-29; 34-31 ATS) are on a three-game winning streak following a 104-103 victory to the Denver Nuggets this past Monday. The Spurs are holding the No. 8 seed in the West three games ahead of the Sacramento Kings, although they are just 4-7 straight up and 3-8 ATS in the last 11 games overall. Also, the Spurs are only 2-8 straight up and 3-7 ATS in their last ten outings on the road, and the over is 9-1 during that span.

The Atlanta Hawks (22-43; 31-34 ATS) are coming off a narrow 114-113 defeat at Miami Monday night to record their third loss over the last five games. The Hawks are 4-5 straight up and 7-2 ATS in their last nine games overall, while they are 3-8 straight up and 4-7 ATS in the previous 11 showings on the home court. The over has hit in their last four contests overall and in three of their previous four outings at State Farm Arena.

This will be the first head-to-head duel of the season between these two foes, and the Spurs are 13-2 straight up and 10-5 ATS in their last 15 meetings with the Hawks. Atlanta has won the previous two H2H duels at State Farm Arena, but the Hawks are just 3-8 straight up and 4-7 ATS in their last 11 home meetings with the Spurs. San Antonio is 4-8 straight up and 6-6 ATS in its last 12 road encounters with the Eastern Conference, and the over is 9-2-1 in that span, while Atlanta is 6-3 straight up and ATS in its previous nine home meetings with the Western Conference, and the over is 7-4 during that stretch.

Denver Nuggets vs. Los Angeles Lakers

The Denver Nuggets (42-21; 34-29 ATS) and the Los Angeles Lakers (30-34; 26-37-1 ATS) will lock horns for the third time this season. The series is tied whereas each team has been victorious on the home court. The Nuggets are 7-4 straight up and ATS in their last 11 encounters with the Lakers, and the over is 7-3-1 during that stretch, while the Lakers are 4-0 straight up and ATS in the last four H2H duels in LA following seven straight losses to the Nuggets at Staples Center.

The Nuggets are on a three-game losing streak following a 104-103 defeat at the San Antonio Spurs on Monday. They’ve been pretty much hit-or-miss lately, winning six of their last 11 games and covering the spread five times in the process. The Nuggets are 4-6 straight up and 3-7 ATS in their last ten games on the road, while they are 5-7 straight up and 4-7-1 ATS in the previous 12 road tilts against the Pacific Division.

The Lakers will almost certainly watch the playoffs on TV, winning just one of their last six games and failing to cover the spread in that span. Also, the Lakers are just 3-9 straight up and ATS in their last 12 games overall. They are 5-8 straight up and 3-9-1 ATS in the last 13 showings at Staples Center, while the Lakers are 6-8 straight up and 5-9 ATS in their previous 14 home encounters with the Northwest Division.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Brooklyn Nets

The Cleveland Cavaliers (16-48; 29-34-1 ATS) and the Brooklyn Nets (33-33; 36-30 ATS) will wrap up the series tonight, and the Nets lead 2-1 with a couple of road wins, while the Cavs have won 99-97 as 6-point road dogs at Barclays Center. The Nets opened as 8.5-point favorites on this one with the total at 225.5 points and are 3-6 straight up and 7-2 ATS in their last nine meetings with the Cavaliers.

Cleveland is coming off a surprising 107-93 home victory over the Orlando Magic this past Sunday, while the Cavaliers are even more surprising 5-3 straight up and ATS over their last eight outings. The Cavs should cool down in the further weeks, considering they are trying to get a high draft pick. Cleveland is 2-6 straight up and 2-5-1 ATS in its last eight contests on the road, while the Cavaliers are 4-7 straight up in their last 11 road encounters with the Atlantic Division.

Brooklyn is coming off a heavy 127-88 home victory over the Dallas Mavericks this past Monday to put an end to its three-game losing streak, while the Nets are 5-9 straight up and 7-7 ATS over their last 14 outings. They are tied with Detroit at the No. 6 seed in the East 2.5 games ahead of Charlotte and Miami. The Nets are 11-5 straight up and 9-7 ATS in their last 16 contests on the home court, and are 4-6 straight up and just 2-8 ATS in their previous ten home meetings with the Central Division.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Washington Wizards

The Dallas Mavericks (27-36; 35-27-1 ATS) have been demolished at Brooklyn 127-88 last time out and are 1-7 straight up and ATS over their last eight games overall. Also, the Mavericks are on a four-game losing streak away from home, failing to cover in the process, and they are 3-9 straight up and 6-6 ATS in the last 12 outings on the road. Dallas is 4-9 straight up in its last 13 road meetings with the Eastern Conference, and the under is 12-1 during that span.

On the other side, the over is 11-1 in Washington’s last 12 games overall, while the Wizards (26-37; 28-35 ATS) are just 4-8 straight up and 5-7 ATS during that stretch. However, the Wizards are 9-5 straight up and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 showings on the home court, and are 6-1 straight up and ATS in their previous seven home meetings with the Western Conference, while the over has hit on all those seven occasions.

The Wizards opened as 5-point favorites here with the total at 231.5 points, but they are only 1-11 straight up and ATS in the last 12 meetings with the Mavericks including a 119-100 defeat in Dallas earlier in the season. The Wizards are 0-9 straight up and 2-7 ATS in their previous nine home meetings with the Wizards, while the over has hit in three of the last four H2H duels at Capital One Arena.

Game of the Night: Nuggets (-5 ½, 227) at Lakers – 10:35 PM EST

LeBron James has led his teams to the NBA Finals in each of the past eight seasons, which is one of the most impressive individual streaks in American professional sports. However, his Lakers (30-34 SU, 26-36-2 ATS) may not even qualify for the playoffs in his first season with the Purple and Gold. The Lakers suffered their third consecutive loss on Monday as they fell to the rival Clippers, 113-105 as 3 ½-point favorites.

Since shocking the Celtics at the buzzer on February 7, Los Angeles owns a dreadful 2-7 SU/ATS mark, including five outright losses in the favorite role. The Lakers squandered an eight-point advantage after one quarter in Monday’s setback to the Clippers, while allowing 49% shooting from the floor. James led the Lakers with 27 points, while Rajon Rondo registered a triple-double with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists as L.A. fell to 4-8 since James returned the lineup from his groin injury on January 31.

The Nuggets (42-21 SU, 34-29 ATS) rode a five-game winning streak in mid-February, but Denver has gone backwards of late by dropping three straight contests. After melting down in Saturday’s 120-112 home loss to an unrested New Orleans squad as 13 ½-point favorites, the Nuggets fell behind by 19 points to the Spurs following 12 minutes of play on Monday.

Denver rallied back in the fourth quarter, but were squeezed by San Antonio, 104-103. The Nuggets managed a cover as 1 ½-point underdogs, but Denver suffered its second losing streak of three games since the start of February in spite of 25 points from Jamal Murray. Denver attempted (and made) only four free throws, while cashing the UNDER for the sixth consecutive game.

The Lakers will be without second-leading scorer Kyle Kuzma on Wednesday, as the second-year forward sprained his right ankle in Monday’s defeat. The home team has captured each of the first two matchups this season, as the Nuggets crushed the Lakers in the previous meeting in Denver, 117-85 in late November. Denver limited Los Angeles to 5-of-35 shooting from three-point range, while James was 0-of-4 from downtown. However, the Nuggets have lost in their last four trips to Staples Center since 2017.

NoCal Sweep?

For all the problems the Celtics (39-26 SU, 33-32 ATS) have endured on and off the court this season, Boston finally was able to show the country that it isn’t dead yet. The Celtics crushed the Warriors in the opener of their four-game road trip on Tuesday, 128-95 to easily cash as 6 ½-point underdogs. Boston dropped 73 points on the two-time defending champions in the first half, as Gordon Hayward came off the bench to score 30 points in its first road win since the All-Star break.

The Celtics head from Oakland to Sacramento tonight to face the Kings (32-31 SU, 37-26 ATS) for the first time this season. Sacramento snapped a three-game skid on Monday as the Kings slipped past the awful Knicks, 115-108 as 11-point favorites. Although the Kings didn’t cover, they improved to 15-2 overall this season in the favorite role, but they are flipped to an underdog at Golden 1 Center.

Since the start of December, the Kings have covered in seven of 11 opportunities as a home ‘dog, but have lost two of the past three home matchups with the Celtics. Boston has had its issues with no rest this season by compiling a 4-6 SU and 3-7 ATS record, including a 2-4 SU and 1-5 ATS mark on the road.

Beasts of the South-least

The Southeast division race is the closest one in basketball, although not one team owns a winning record. The Magic fell out of a three-way tie for first alongside the Hornets and Heat after losing at Philadelphia on Tuesday. Charlotte (29-34 SU, 30-32-1 ATS) has lost four consecutive home games, while Miami (29-34 SU, 33-30 ATS) is fresh off a pair of home victories to pull into the top spot of the Southeast.

Since winning five straight home games from mid-January through the start of February, the Hornets own a 1-5 record the last five contests at Spectrum Center. Four of the losses came to the Clippers, Warriors, Rockets, and Blazers, as the latest setback came in Saturday’s 118-108 defeat to Portland. Charlotte has allowed 117 points or more in four straight home contests, while the OVER has cashed in six of its past seven games overall.

The Heat finally figured out the Hawks in Monday’s 114-113 home triumph to beat Atlanta for the first time in four tries this season. However, Miami failed to cash as 10-point favorites to end a three-game ATS hot streak. The Heat have dropped five of their past six road games since February 8, while losing the first two meetings with the Hornets back in October after sweeping the four-game series last season.

Back to the Big Easy

Things aren’t going on script for the Pelicans (30-36 SU, 33-32-1 ATS), who were supposed to fall apart after Anthony Davis demanded a trade out of New Orleans. Things have gone well for the Pelicans lately, who have covered five of six games, while capturing the final three games on their road trip, including outright underdog victories at Denver and Utah.

New Orleans erased a nine-point halftime deficit on Monday to shock Utah, 115-112 to cash as 9 ½-point road ‘dogs, led by 30-point efforts from Jrue Holiday and Julius Randle. Davis played only 22 minutes and scored 15 points, but the Pelicans picked up three consecutive wins for only the second time since Thanksgiving.

Now, the two teams flip venues and head to Smoothie King Center as the Jazz (36-27 SU, 32-29-2 ATS) try to bounce back after having their four-game winning streak snapped. Utah’s offense continues to score points, as they eclipsed the 111-point mark for the sixth consecutive game in Monday’s setback. However, Utah fell to 1-3 ATS the last four games since putting together a 5-0 ATS run earlier in February.

The Jazz have seen plenty of success in their former home of New Orleans by winning in five straight visits since 2016, including a 132-111 blowout in late October as six-point favorites. However, Davis didn’t suit up in that contest, as the Jazz shot 52% from the floor led by Ricky Rubio’s 28 points as the OVER is 5-0 in the past five matchups in the Big Easy.
