Play on: Hornets +3 -105 at pinnacle

Play - Charlotte Hornets (Game 523).

Edges - Hornets” 10-2 AST in this series … Magic: 1-16 ATS last 17 games as division home favorites … With Orlando off a 30-point underdog win and the Hornets off a 9-point loss, we recommend a 1* play on Charlotte. Thank you and good luck as always.

Big Colonial clash tonight in South Carolina as Joe Mihalich's Pride of Hofstra bring a 21-4 season mark, and an Association-leading 11-1 record into this meeting against a Cougars team that has gone 9-4 in the loop and brings an overall 20-6 mark into this home slugfest.

Hofstra was an 86-72 home winner over the College of Charleston back on January 19th in New York, but tonight in this near pick spot I am looking for the Cougars to return the favor.

The Pride is 2 games ahead of Northeastern for the loop lead, and 3 games ahead of the Cougars coming into this game, and their offense which averages a large 81.8 points per game is a large reason why they have been able to distance themselves in the Colonial Athletic thus far this year.

I know Hofstra brings a 7-4 straight up road mark into this game, but I also know they suffered a loss at Northeastern their last time out on the conference road, as they were held to just 61 points in that road loss.

Charleston has done a solid job all year long on the stop end, allowing 66.6 points per game for the season, and they have also done a solid job all season long in protecting their home court at TD Arena as their boast an 11-1 straight up mark, and Earl Grant's team happens to be riding a 6 game win streak with a 4-2 spread mark in those 6 wins.

The Cougars will have to make sure that Pride big-gun Justin Wright-Foreman who went off for 48 points in Hofstra's last game does not get anywhere close to that output tonight. Hofstra did have 4 of their starters land in double-figures last time out against William and Mary, but Charleston also placed 4 of their starters in double-figures in their last game, led by Jarrell Brantley's 22 points.

This one is priced right around a pick, and with lines like that my general rule of thumb is if the 2 teams are evenly matched to side with the home team - especially with in-season revenge on their side. That is the case tonight.

Play Charleston to squeeze past the conference leader tonight in a close one.

4* CHARLESTON

Thursday night comp play on # 3 ranked Gonzaga to keep plowing through their conference schedule that stops tonight at Loyola Marymount.

All these Zags do is win...23 times in their 25 games this year, and they mostly cover when they win too, as Mark Few's team has covered their last pair, 4 of 5, and 11 of their last 14 overall.

Loyola Marymount is actually one of the few teams that has been able to stay inside of the number against the Bulldogs, as they did cover in the January 17th meeting in Spokane as the +23 1/2 point road dogs in a 73-55 loss.

For the season, the Lions are just 4-6 against the spread at home, and they come into this game averaging just 66 points per game, while allowing 63.1 points per contest.

Conversely, the visiting Bulldogs post a whopping 91.4 points per game this season, while allowing just over 65 points. Gonzage also hauls in nearly 8 rebounds per game more than their opponent on the season.

The Lions have not broken through against the Zags in any of the last 10 meetings, and they are just 2-6-1 against the spread the last 9 series meetings.

Not much to think about here, just lay the wood and watch the high-scoring Bulldogs do their thing in another lopsided West Coast Conference bloodbath.

Thursday night freebie on Gonzaga.

With Murray State playing at Austin Peay tonight in Ohio Valley action, the Belmont Bruins who are 10-2 in OVC play can pick up a game on one of the other two teams who are also 10-2 entering play this Thursday night.

Belmont can also, and will also notch their 20th win of the season in this spot against a Tennessee State team that is just 8-16 for the year and saw their season-high 3 game winning streak come to a halt at Eastern Kentucky their last time out.

Dylan Windler paced the Bruins attack with a career-high 41 points in Belmont's 96-86 win at Morehead State the last time out, as Belmont pours in 86.2 points per game on the season compared to Tennessee State's 69.4 points per contest.

In the first meeting between the schools, Belmont posted 92 points in their 92-74 home win and cover as the -17 1/2 point favorites.

That win was Belmont's 2nd in a row in the series, as they have won 8 of the last 10 overall series meetings, as the Bruins have also covered in their last pair of series meetings when favored by double-digits, and 3 of the past 4 overall as the double-digit series favorite.

This is a loaded Belmont team, but with both Murray State and Austin Peay harboring Big Dance hopes, it is very important the Bruins stay on task and try and position themselves for the automatic bid that will come by winning the conference tournament in a week weeks.

I like Belmont to blow away Tennessee State on Thursday.

Play Montana State at Idaho State tonight, as the Bobcats have been much more impressive in conference play, and will keep things rolling tonight. Remember, this is one of those conferences where the higher seeds host opening round games. Montana State is 8-5 in Big Sky play, sitting in fourth place, 2 1/2 games back of Montana in the 11-school league.

Idaho State is in seventh place, and will have a very tough time climbing the standings, with Southern Utah and Eastern Washington in front of the Bengals.

What we've seen of late is Idaho State lose six of eight, and a failing scoring defense that has given up 80.4 points per game in its last five.

In the first meeting, Montana State won by 20, with a 104-84 blowout of the Bengals.

Riding a three-game win streak, look for the Bobcats to roll to a huge road win tonight.

5* MONTANA STATE

10* FREE NCAAB PICK (Illinois +8)

I'll take my chances here with the Fighting Illini covering the big number on the road against the Buckeyes. I've really liked what I've seen from this Illinois team of late. They come in having won 3 straight and 4 of their last 5. That includes a win on a neutral site against a good Maryland team and a win at home over an elite Michigan State squad.

No doubt this team will be ready to go against the Buckeyes, who handed them a 77-67 loss way back in early December. That's back when Ohio State was playing good basketball. The Buckeyes are just 4-6 in their last 10 and that's with them winning their last 3. Some might view their 3-game winning streak as a sign of things to come, but two were at home against Rutgers and Penn State and the other on the road to Indiana. Two of those coming by 4 or fewer points.

I'm not saying Ohio State won't win this game at home, but I really think it's asking a lot for them to win by 9 or more points. Give me the Fighting Illini +8!

Jack’s Free Pick Thursday: Ohio State -7.5

The Ohio State Buckeyes have righted the ship here of late. They have gone 4-1 in their last five games overall with their only loss coming at Michigan. I still believe this team is better than this line would indicate and they should be able to put away Illinois by double-digits.

The Fighting Illini are actually starting to get some respect from oddsmakers after going 3-0 SU & 2-1 ATS in their last three games overall. But all three wins came at home, and in fact all four of their Big Ten wins have come at home this season.

Illinois is just 1-11 SU in all road games this season, including 0-6 in true road games. They are getting outscored by 10.3 points per game on the highway this season. Ohio State is outscoring its opponents by 10.8 points per game at home.

The Buckeyes are 14-3 SU & 11-5-1 ATS in their last 17 home meetings with the Fighting Illini. Illinois is 2-9 ATS in road games off a win over the last two seasons. Bet Ohio State Thursday.
