Shane Bieber (CLE) Over 6.5 Ks (-127 CZ)
Bieber is having a down season by his standards and his strikeout numbers have subsequently dipped compared to previous seasons. That being said, he is still throwing 8.87 strikeouts per 9 IP and his 13.8% swinging strike percentage is only a few ticks below his career average of 14.2%. When you zoom in on Bieber's strikeout metrics, it is apparent he is running cold and is due for some positive regression. He gets a fantastic matchup on paper this evening against the Tampa Bay Rays, who average the fifth most strikeouts in the majors. The Rays also possess the fourth highest K rate versus opposing right-handed pitchers. My model has Bieber projected at 8.51 strikeouts which is sizable edge. I would play this prop down to -155.
Blake Snell (SD) Under 6.5 Ks (+115 DK)
Snell is having arguable is worst season since entering the league in 2016. The veteran southpaw has failed to throw seven strikeouts in seven of his 11 starts this year. He has a bloated 4.75 ERA and has only thrown six innings three times. His strikeout metrics also have regressed. Snell will have his hands full against the Twins, who average the tenth fewest strikeouts. Minnesota have been especially tough on lefties where their 19.3% K rate is the fifth-lowest in the league. In Snell's defense, he has had a brutal schedule and that theme will continue tonight. My model has Snell projected at 5.54 strikeouts, and considering this prop is hovering around +115 it is an auto fade for me. I would play this prop down to -125.
