TEXAS @ MIAMI | 07/21 | 1:10 PM EDT
MIAMI -120
ANALYSIS: The Marlins didn't score in the final 25 innings before the All-Star Break, they haven't hit a homer in the last eight games, and Jazz Chisholm (back) isn't ready to return. But they've got Pablo Lopez going Thursday at home, where he's 3-1 with a 2.35 ERA. Lopez also excels in day games, holding batters to a .160 on-base average. He faces a Texas team that lost four straight entering the break while averaging 3.0 runs. Rangers starter Jon Gray has been vulnerable on the road, where he's 2-4 with a 4.12 ERA. Lay the small price with a Marlins team desperate to prove it can still contend for a Wild Card.

TEXAS @ MIAMI | 07/21 | 1:10 PM EDT
MIAMI -115
ANALYSIS: I was on the fence for this game as I don't really trust the Miami offense without the injured Jazz Chisholm, but at least both Jorge Soler and Garrett Cooper returned from injury ahead of the All-Star break. In a major surprise, the Rangers are resting All-Star shortstop Corey Seager, who leads the team in homers (22) and RBIs (52). Could be that because Texas visits Oakland on Friday that Seager just stayed in California following the All-Star Game. (That's tough travel, from Texas to Miami to California -- the Rangers may simply mentally punt on this game.) The Under might not be bad here (although it just dropped from 7, which I was OK with, to 6.5, which I'm not) as Texas pitcher Jon Gray has allowed 3 ER or fewer in seven straight starts, but he also hasn't been as good away overall, and Miami's Pablo Lopez has a 2.35 ERA at home -- so we have to back the Fish on the cheap ML.

NEBRASKA @ NORTHWESTERN | 08/27 | 12:30 PM EDT
NORTHWESTERN +12.5
ANALYSIS: This game is in Ireland. Since there's no MLB until Thursday, let's start with college football. Why not? Sure, there's risk picking this early -- I already took the Panthers +3.5 vs. Cleveland with the Baker Mayfield news and presuming a Deshaun Watson suspension; now that's down to +1 so I got value. There's no rule/timetable on getting value. I don't think Nebraska is 12.5 points better than anyone. The Huskers will be breaking in a new QB (probably Texas transfer Casey Thompson) as well and NW brings back QB Ryan Hilinski among 12 starters. The Huskers (who recently lost a starting offensive lineman for the season) ALWAYS play close games it seems, although yes they did spank Northwestern last year. This is a different season with different teams and the Cats are well-coached and fundamentally sound. The Huskers probably will win but barring something weird not by more than 10 -- this opened at -9.5.

DETROIT @ OAKLAND | 07/21 | 3:37 PM EDT
UNDER 7.5
ANALYSIS: My projections see the Under hitting in nearly two-thirds of simulations as two of the worst offensive units in MLB collide Thursday coming out of the All-Star break. Both of these light-hitting clubs rank near the bottom of every major statistical category, and their results against the posted total are predictably Under-heavy. Detroit is 16-28-2 to the Over/Under in road games, while Oakland is 15-23-5 to the Over/Under at home.

SAN FRANCISCO @ L.A. DODGERS | 07/21 | 10:09 PM EDT
SAN FRANCISCO +118
ANALYSIS: Los Angeles RHP Mitch White gave up six runs in his last outing. The Dodgers have lost four of his last six starts. The last time these rivals met, the Giants posted a 2-0 victory to complete a three-game sweep, and it was LHP Carlos Rodon who laid down the law. Rodon has allowed fewer than two runs in six of his last seven outings. He'll get the job done again. Take San Francisco to win a low-scoring game.
