Wednesday's comp play on the Cubbies and the Cardinals to play Over the total after last night's 2-1 series opening final.

Kyle Hendricks did shut down the Cardinals earlier this year, as he worked his third career complete game shutout back in May at Wrigley Field versus St. Louis. There has been no issue with Hendricks at home, as he is 4-2 with a 1.89 ERA at the Friendly Confines, but on the road the righty stands at just 3-6 with an ERA of 4,91!

My money is on the Redbirds to get a few runs off of Hendricks in this contest, as we see a game that inches its way Over the posted total.

Miles Mikolas will counter, and he has allowed 6 runs and 11 hits over his last 12 innings of work. True, he is 3-1 with a 1.88 ERA against the Cubs in his career, but that is factored into this low total, and after just 3 combined runs last night, I am looking for the bats to wake up enough to push this contest over the total.

Cubs and Cards go high on Wednesday.

Wednesday free play goes on the early afternoon card as I back the Yankees to avoid the two game sweep at home to the Diamondbacks.

No doubt New York is scuffling right now, as last night they mustered just 5 hits in a 4-2 loss to Arizona, as the Yankees have dropped 4 of their last 5 games, and 6 of their last 9 games overall.

Arizona comes in riding a 14-5 interleague mark this season - the best in MLB - into this series finale and will have Zack Greinke on the hill as they look to move to 15-5 in IL play.

Greinke is 10-4 this season, and owns a solid 2.87 ERA. That mark includes an April win over the Yankees in which he allowed just one run in his 7-plus innings pitched. The Yankees usually fare better when they have faced a pitcher once before in the season, and I expect that to be the case this afternoon as they need to close out this set before welcoming the Boston Red Sox who just dominated them over the weekend in Boston to the Bronx for another 4 games starting tomorrow.

Masahiro Tanaka has had his recent struggles as he has been unable to get this slider to work, but today I look for the All-Star to regain his form.

Yankees to avoid the sweep.
