Braves vs. Mets
OVER 8½

The set-up: Atlanta is surging towards the finish line of the half way point and it’ll be eager to complete the series sweep here after coming from behind late last night to win 5-4. The Mets won’t be rolling over though obviously after losing seven straight. Two competent hurlers go head to head in this one, but I still think this one sets up as more of a “slug-fest” than a duel. The Braves go with Max Fried, while the home side counters with Noah Syndergaard.

The pitchers: Fried (9-3, 3.96 ERA) comes in having won back-to-back starts, but if he’s had one weakness this year it’s definitely been his play on the road, where his ERA balloons to 4.70.

Syndergaard (5-4, 4.55) has been hit or miss this season and he makes a tough start here in his first appearance after being on the IL for the last 14 days with a strained left hamstring.

The pick: New York’s bullpen has been terrible, which is bad news for the ailing Syndegaard (note that the Mets’ bullpen has posted a 7.62 ERA in June.) As mentioned off the top, I think the writing is on the wall and a higher-scoring “slug-fest” is in the cards.

1* Free Play over Braves/Mets.

Sunday comp play is the Braves to hand the Mets their 8th straight setback.

Atlanta has won the first 2 games of this 3 game series, and they have also won 6 of the last 7 games contested between the teams this year.

The Braves upped their road record to 26-17 with yesterday's victory, and will look to put the wraps on this 10 game road swing at 7-3 if they can come through with the "W" in this spotlight ESPN game on Sunday night.

Max Fried will oppose Noah Syndergaard who will be activated after missing one start with a hamstring injury. Syndergaard has made 7 career starts against Atlanta and is still searching for his first win, as he is 0-2 with an ERA of 3.49.

Fried comes into this road start off of back-to-back wins over the Mets and the Cubs in which he has allowed just 4 runs in 12 innings or work. He is also 1-1 with a 1.77 ERA in 7 career appearances against New York.

The Mets showed some spunk yesterday in coming from 3-0 down, but they did eventually wound up once again on the short side of a 5-4 decision.

Only a matter of time before skipper Mickey Callaway and company get the ax, and tonight's nationally televised loss will put one more nail in the coffin.

Take the Braves.

Cardinals vs. Padres
Padres-110

My free play is on the SD Padres at 4:10 ET. The San Diego Padres routed the St Louis Cardinals 12-2 on Saturday night and have now won FOUR in a row and EIGHT of their last 11 games. The 42-40 Padres haven't been at or above the .500 mark at the All-Star break since 2010 but they are looking to change all that in 2019 as they try for a three-game sweep of the visiting Cardinals on Sunday. St Louis has lost a season-high FIVE straight games and is now under .500 at 40-41. Adding insult to injury, Marcell Ozuna (20 HRs / 62 RBI) was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a finger injury sustained while getting picked off first base during Friday's 3-1 loss. Sunday's pitching matchup features Miles Mikolas (5-8, 4.33 ERA) and Joey Lucchesi (6-4, 3.95 ERA). Mikolas was OUTSTANDING in 2018, going 18-4 with a 2.83 ERA in 32 starts. The Cards were 24-8 in his starts and his moneyline mark of plus-$1,418 was the 4th-best among all starters. However, his 2019 season is a far cry from his 2018 one. He is 1-4 with a 3.44 ERA in his last six outings (Cards are 2-4) and St Louis is just 8-8 in his starts this season. Mikolas has faced San Diego just twice in his career, going 1-1 with a 2.84 ERA in two starts against San Diego. Lucchesi did not factor in the decision after permitting four runs on six hits with four strikeouts in five innings of the Padres' 11-10 loss at Pittsburgh on June 23 but he had gone 3-1 with a 2.59 ERA over his previous four starts, This will mark Lucchesi's 16th start of the season and the Padres are 8-7 in his outings. Opponents are hitting just .223 against Lucchesi, who will be facing the Cards for the first time in his career. Here's the rub. The Padres may only be 12-13 in June but they are averaging 6.0 RPG to set a club record for average runs in a month (previous best was 5.72 set in June 1997). Meanwhile, the Cardinals are averaging the second-fewest amount of runs in the National League this month at 3.48 per and enter this contest having scored a total of just THREE three in their last 34 innings. Getting to the specific pitchers, look at the home/away dichotomy of both. Mikolas owns a 2.48 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in nine home starts but a 7.76 ERA and 1.76 WHIP in seven road starts. Luchessi owns a 6.10 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in six away starts but a 2.70 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in nine home starts. Padres complete the sweep. Good luck...Larry

Dodgers vs. Rockies
1* Free MLB Pick on Los Angeles Dodgers -165

I really like the Dodgers to come away with a win in the series finale against the Rockies on Sunday. Dodgers will have quite the edge on the mound in this one. LA will send out Kenta Maeda. who is a rock solid 7-4 with a 3.76 ERA and 1.100 WHIP.

The bigger thing is how well Maeda has pitched at Coors Field. He's 5-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 9 appearances (6 starts). Maeda should get plenty of run support, as a potent Dodgers offense will be up against the likes of Chi Chi Gonzalez, who made his first start since 2016 earlier this week at San Francisco. It wasn't great, as he allowed 3 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks in just 5 innings of work. Take Los Angeles!

Diamondbacks vs. Giants
10* FREE MLB PICK (Giants +107)

I'll take my chances here with San Francisco as a home dog against the Rays. This is just too good a price to pass up with the Giants with ace Madison Bumgarner on the mound. Bumgarner may not be the elite pitcher he once was, but he's still pretty good, especially at home. Bumgarner has a 3.72 ERA and 1.132 WHIP in 9 home starts. He's also owned Arizona with a 2.60 ERA and 1.115 WHIP in 33 career starts against them. Give me the Giants +107
