The Americans are coming off a 2-1 win over Spain, and they were actually quite fortunate to be awarded a pair of penalties in that game. Their 2-0 win over Sweden didn't really impress either, and now they are a big favorite in the Quarterfinals versus France. The French could enjoy a little home cookin' here, and they may be the more focused of the two teams. Megan Rapinoe is already making it clear that she has no intention of visiting the White House following a WC win, but she may be getting a little ahead of herself. USA deserves to be a favorite, but this line seems rather inflated.

The Chicago Cubs overcame a five-run deficit to earn a 9-7 win over Atlanta on Thursday afternoon. I think they'll ride that momentum to another triumph here in the opener of a three-game series with the Cincinnati Reds.

Cubs' left-hander Cole Hamels (6-2, 2.92 ERA) has been red hot lately, allowing a total of just four runs over his last five starts while working at least seven innings in each. Hamels has dominated the Reds throughout his career, entering this contest with a stellar 11-1 record behind a 1.91 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 17 encounters with Cincinnati.

The Reds hand the ball to right-hander Sonny Gray (3-5, 4.03) who is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in two career outings versus the Cubs. He has allowed three runs or more in three straight starts and has served up two homers in back-to-back starts.

I'll take my chances here with Atlanta at this price all day long. New York is simply overpriced because they have Jacob deGrom on the mound. As good as deGrom is, he might not be the best starter in this matchup. Mike Soroka of the Braves comes in at 8-1 with a 2.07 ERA and 0.970 WHIP in 13 starts. He's 4-0 with a 1.05 ERA in 7 road starts and 3-0 with a 1.96 ERA in 3 starts against the Mets. New York just finished up an 11-game road trip with 5 straight losses and are a mere 1-8 in their last 9 games at home after a road trip of 7 or more days. They are also somehow just 8-20 in deGrom's last 28 home starts and have lost 7 straight series openers started by the reigning Cy Young winner. Give me Atlanta +130!

We are getting Cole Hamels at a very good value here. He has been excellent since the Cubs traded for him last year. Hamels is at it again this season, going 6-2 with a 2.92 ERA in 16 starts. He owns the Reds, going 12-1 with a 1.77 ERA in 18 career starts against them.

Sonny Gray is 3-5 with a 3.91 ERA in 15 starts this season, 2-2 with a 4.03 ERA in eight home starts, and 1-0 with a 6.00 ERA in his last three starts overall. Gray is also 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in two career starts against the Cubs.

Chicago is 14-3 when revenging a loss as a home favorite this season. Hamels’ teams are 17-1 in his 18 career starts against the Reds. The Cubs are 11-4 in Hamels’ last 15 starts overall. Bet the Cubs Friday.

I like the value here with San Francisco at basically a pick'em at home against the Diamondbacks. Arizona is simply getting a little too much love from the books in this one. Diamondbacks have won 4 of 5, but are just 1-game over .500 for the season.

I give the starting pitching edge to San Francisco in this one. Giants will send out rookie Shaun Anderson, who is coming off a strong start at Arizona, limiting the Diamondbacks to just 2 runs in 6 innings.

Arizona will counter with Merrill Kelly, who has a mere 4.95 ERA and 1.419 WHIP in 8 road starts. Diamondbacks are also a mere 1-6 in their last 7 after scoring 5 or more runs and 0-5 in their last 5 during game 2 of a series. Take San Francisco!
