My 1* Free Play is San Diego Padres (7:05 EST).

The Jays are coming in off an 8-2 loss to the Red Sox on Thursday afternoon. The Padres had Thursday off after a 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, a victory which completed a three-game sweep of Arizona.

The visitors look to keep the good times rolling in this favorable interleague matchup, handing the ball to Joey Lucchesi (3-3, 4.28 ERA), who will go up against Trent Thornton (1-4, 4.41).

Lucchesi most recently allowed two runs over seven innings in an unfortunate setback to the Pirates in his last start. Note that he owns a 2-1 record in four interleague starts.

Thornton makes his 11th career start here, coming in off a decent outing vs. the White Sox in which he gave up one run over six innings. He received a no-decision.

Toronto though has lost nine of its last 11 at home and it’s just 9-16 there for the season.

I think Lucchesi and the surging Padres are well worth the price of admission in this matchup. Consider San Diego on Friday night.
