Play on: Reds +105 at BMaker

Play - Cincinnati Reds w/Castillo vs Godley (Game 954).

Edges - Reds: Castillo 7-3 with 3.55 ERA home team-starts, as opposed to 5-8 with 6.18 ERA away this season … Brewers: Godley 5.46 ERA away as opposed to 3.38 ERA hime this season. With the Diamondbacks just 1-4 in day games behind Godley this season, we recommend a 1* play on Cincinnati. Thank you and good luck as always.

Sunday's comp play will be the Nats and Cubs Under the total.

ESPN picked a good game to showcase, as Washington will send Max Scherzer to the mound, while the home team Chicago Cubs will go with their new trade piece, Cole Hamels.

Scherzer has worked his last 4 starts without allowing any more than 2 runs in any of those efforts. He has logged 27 innings with just 6 runs - only 5 earned - allowed as his season ERA stands at a lowly 2.28.

Since coming over to the Cubs, Hamels has turned in 11 innings of work with 11 strikeouts, and just 2 runs - only 1 earned - allowed.

The Nationals are 5-2-1 Under (no sat) their last 9 games, while the Cubs are 6-2 Under (no sat) their last 9 games contested.

Sit back tonight, open up a cold one, and watch a pair of pitchers on top of their craft baffle the batters this Sunday night.

Nationals and Cubs to close their series Under the total.

4* WASHINGTON-CUBS UNDER

Your Sunday freebie is the Cardinals by at least two runs over the Royals.

This weekend's I-70, "Show Me" series has been very much one-sided, as St. Louis has come into town and taken names as they kick ass.

The Cardinals won Friday's game 7-0, and then they won again last night, 8-3.

More of the same today as St. Louis looks to keep their playoff hopes on pace with the rest of the log-jammed National League Wild Card contenders.

St. Louis has won 4 in a row, and they have also claimed the win in 11 of their last 15 games, while Kansas City sports just one win in their last 9 games played.

It doesn't matter to me who is on the hill in this one, I recognize a steam-roller when I see one, and today's Cardinals-Royals contest qualifies as a steam-roller.

Redbirds by at least 2 runs.

4* ST. LOUIS -1 1/2 RUNS

The WNBA comp Play is on the LA. Sparks. Game 609 at 7:05 eastern on ESPN 2.

The Sparks are 10-1 in the series with Phoenix and are a perfect 10-0 on Sundays. In games with 2 days rest LA has won 7 of 8 and 4-0 to the spread off a loss. Phoenix has failed to cover 5 of 6 at home and 8 of 11 vs teams who average 77 or more points per game. The Mercury are 0-2 ats as a home dog of 3 or less. Look for LA to take another in this series.

JACK BRAYMAN

My free winner for Sunday is on the San Francisco Giants over the Pittsburgh Pirates, and in this game I want you listing the scheduled starters: Joe Musgrove and Dereck Rodriguez.

Even as a diehard Los Angeles Dodgers, it's hard not to appreciate what Rodriguez has done this season. The sensational rookie spun his seventh straight quality start last Monday against the defending World Series champion Houston Astros.

He twirled seven scoreless innings while striking out seven along the way. He lowered his season ERA to 2.34, and leads rookie starters by a wide margin over St. Louis' Jack Flaherty (3.27).

The Giants are 8-3 in games started by Rodriguez.

Musgrove has been consistent for the Pirates, but he can't account for victories. He is 1-2 in his last three starts, while the team has lost seven of his 12 starts this season.

Take Frisco and list both.

3* GIANTS (Rodriguez over Musgrove)

My free winner for tonight is on the Angels over the Oakland Athletics, who are in Anaheim for a weekend set. And do not list pitchers in this game.

Oakland closed out a series in Los Angeles with a win over the Dodgers, and headed north for this series with their division rivals. And while I know they're sitting in second place in the American League West, they failed in the series lid-lifter because this rivalry is always intense. Add in the fact the Halos are playing well, despite last night's 7-0 loss, and this finale could be trouble.

I know Mike Trout is out, but there is more to the Halos than the slugger. This is an offense that has belted 160 home runs this season - ranked fifth in the bigs. And at home, their 88 homers rank second in the league.

As a staff on the road, Oakland has an ERA of 4.20, and has allowed 75 home runs - fifth most in the bigs. That doesn't bode well when you have guys like Andrelton Simmons leading the Angels with a .306 batting average, or Justin Upton ranking second with a .258 average. Shohei Ohtani has three home runs and seven RBIs while slugging .629 over his past 10 games for the Angels.

Let's take the Halos at home today

1* ANGELS

Pirates vs. Giants
Giants-109

The San Francisco Giants were held to six singles in a 4-0 Saturday home loss to the Pirates and find themselves six games out of first place in the NL West (seven out of the second wild-card spot) as they look for a split of their four-game series against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday. The 61-57 Pirates are seven games out in the NL Central and four games back of the NL's second wild card, as the teams wrap up their season series (Pirates lead 4-2).

Joe Musgrove (4-6, 3.41 ERA) gets the ball for Pittsburgh, coming off a third straight quality start this past Monday. He allowed just two runs - one earned - over seven innings at Colorado but took a 2-0 loss. “I thought that was some of the best stuff I’d had all year,” he told reporters. “My slider was the best it’s felt, the depth on it, the shape of it, was really good.” Stamina was a big concern for a reliever transitioning into a starter this season but Musgrove has come on strong in his last six starts, allowing two ERs or less in five of his last six starts (2.43 ERA). The 25-year-old has never faced the Giants.

Dereck Rodriguez (5-1, 2.34 ERA) opposes Musgrove and his recent outings have allowed him to enter discussion for NL Rookie of the Year honors. He has allowed two or less runs in each of his last eight outings (seven starts / team is 5-2), going 3-0 with a 1.28 ERA. The 26-year-old son of Hall-of-Famer Ivan Rodriguez turned in another gem Monday against Houston, striking out seven without issuing a walk in seven scoreless frames. Like Musgrove, Rodriguez will be facing his opponent on Sunday for the first time.

The Pirates are 9-3 in their last 12 games at AT&T Park but I'm a big fan of Pudge's son. Rodriguez has far and away the best ERA (2.34) among National League rookies and since the All-Star break, has allowed just four ERs on 14 hits over 26 1/3 innings (1.48 ERA) in four starts with a 24-5 KW ratio. Take the Giants.

Good luck...Larry

MLB | Indians vs White Sox
Play on: Indians -1½ -145 at 5Dimes

10* FREE MLB PICK (Indians -1.5, -145)

I'll take my chances here with Cleveland on the -1.5 run line in Sunday's series finale against the White Sox. The Indians are making a push right now, as they have won 8 of their last 11. Chicago on the other hand is just going through the motions and have lost 5 of 6. This one has blowout written all over it, as Cleveland sends out the red-hot Carlos Carrasco against one of the worst offenses in the game. Carrasco has a 1.80 ERA and 1.201 WHIP over his last 3 starts, while Chicago is averaging 2.6 runs/game and hitting .177 as a team over their last 7. White Sox will also have Dylan Covey on the mound, who is just 4-8 with a 5.24 ERA in 15 starts overall and comes in with a 8.22 ERA and 1.761 WHIP in his last 3 starts. Give me the Indians -1.5 (-145)!

My free play for Sunday is on the Over in the St. Louis-Kansas City game, as I see both scheduled starting pitchers getting roughed up and chased early.

MAKE NOTE: All Run Line/Total plays automatically list pitchers with the starters who are scheduled to go at the time of the wager, and I want you to be sure the following pitchers are the starters of record on your ticket when making your play: Luke Weaver and Jakob Junis. If one or both of these pitchers is not going, this is a no-play.

Let's start with Weaver, who has experienced a frustrating season while struggling for stretches and suffering tough-luck losses. He steps to the hill at Kauffman Stadium after losing, despite firing six strong innings in Miami. The right-hander is 2-3 with a 3.31 ERA over his last six starts, but now faces a hostile lineup in a rivalry Interleague game. His inconsistencies surface tonight.

After coming off the disabled list on July 21, Junis has looked decent in four straight outings with four or fewer earned runs - including five innings of one-run ball with eight strikeouts in a no-decision versus the Cubs last time out on Monday. Tonight the due theory kicks in for the right-hander, who I see getting bounced by a lineup that is on an 8-2 run, hitting .293 in that span and has outscored opponents by 26 runs over the 10 games.

Play this one high, as it will get into double digits.

The Last Call

Sunday's Free Play: LA Angels - 115
__________________

JACK JONES

Jack’s Free Pick Sunday: St. Louis Cardinals -143

The St. Louis Cardinals are on a tear right now. They have won five straight series and have the best record (11-4) in the National League since July 27th. They have scored at least 7 runs in three consecutive games and will be going for the series sweep of the Royals Sunday. They are just 2.5 games back in the wild card.

Luke Weaver has pitched much better of late in allowing exactly 2 earned runs in each of his last three starts coming in. Weaver gave up just 3 earned runs in 7 innings in his lone career start against the Royals, which came back on May 22nd this year.

Jake Junis is 6-11 with a 4.98 ERA and 1.355 WHIP in 21 starts this season, including 3-7 with a 5.11 ERA and 1.340 WHIP in 12 home starts. He has given up a whopping 26 homers in 121 innings, and the long ball has clearly been his biggest issue.

The Cardinals are 5-0 in their last five road games vs. a right-handed starter. The Royals are 11-43 in their last 54 vs. a team with a winning record. Kansas City is 2-9 in Junis’ last 11 starts, including 1-6 in his last seven home starts. The Royals are 0-7 in Junis’ last seven starts vs. a team with a winning record. Bet the Cardinals Sunday.

1 Unit FREE PLAY on Chicago Cubs +130

I’ll take a shot with the Cubs as home underdogs to the Washington Nationals tonight. It’s rare that you get the chance to back the Cubs as home dogs. Cole Hamels looks like a revived starter after getting traded from the Rangers to the Cubs prior to the deadline. Hamels is 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA in his two starts with the Cubs, giving up just one earned run in 11 innings while striking out 11 batters. Hamels is 16-9 with a 2.67 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 35 previous starts against the Nationals. Hamels is 40-20 +22.4 units in night games over the past three seasons. Chicago is 17-8 in its last 25 home games. Give me the Cubs.
__________________

JIMMY BOYD

1* Free Pick on Miami Marlins +147

This is a great price to back the Marlins at home against the Mets. Most will just jump on New York with Noah Syndergaard on the mound, but there's not as big of a pitching mismatch here as you might think. Miami's Wei-Yin Chen is 4-8 with a 5.48 ERA, but you have to look at his home/away splits to see the value here.

Chen has a miserable 10.27 ERA in 9 road starts, but owns a sensational 1.94 ERA and 1.039 WHIP in 9 home starts. Miami is 14-5 in Chen's last 19 home starts and have also won 5 of his last 6 vs a team with a losing record.

The Mets are also just 2-7 in their last 9 vs a left-handed starter, 2-7 in their last 9 division games and 2-8 in their last 10 road games vs a team with a losing home record. Take Miami!
__________________

DAVE PRICE

Dave’s Sunday Free Play:

1* on Detroit Tigers -109

The Key: Matt Boyd has been tremendous at home this season for the Tigers. He is 4-3 with a 2.93 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in 10 home starts this year. He is also 2-1 with a 2.79 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in his last 3 starts coming in. The Twins realize they are out of contention, so they are going to give former 4th overall pick (2013) Kohl Stewart his major league debut tonight. It’s amazing he hasn’t earned a shot yet after being drafted that high, but he hasn’t earned it, and he still hasn’t earned it to this point. Stewart is 3-7 with a 4.47 ERA in 21 games (19 starts) between Double-A and Triple-A this season. The Twins are 7-19 in their last 26 road games. The Tigers are 7-2 in Boyd’s last 9 home starts, and 5-1 in Boyd’s last 6 home starts vs. a team with a losing record. Take Detroit.

DENNIS MACKLIN

DMack's Free Play for Sunday. August 12, 2018 is on the Dodgers (Hill Listed)

Nobody seems to want to win the NL West. The DBacks, Dodgers, and Rockies are all within two games and even the Giants are just six back. Key game here and we'll back the raging Rich Hill (3-1, 1.85 ERA, L4) who finnaly seems to have figured things out after a tough first half. Chad Bettis 0-1, 8.22, L4) is getting rocked pretty good in recent starts and has never been a mystery to the Dodgers as his 5.44 career ERA vs. the Bums would indicate. Both teams 5-8 L13. Who wants it ??? Today we'll bank the Dodgers.
